Dealing with RFEs
My PD is Jan 09.
I received the RFE for medicals. Should I do it immediately OR should I wait a little as chances of getting current in May are less. Waiting allows extending the 1 year eligibility a little more for next year (in case I do not get it this year).

Not sure whether there is right or wrong answer for this. My suggestion - go ahead and do it as early 2009 is here to stay. If not May, it should be current in June or so. Considering, medicals are valid for an year, there is no harm I would say/suggest. Also, wait for other folks to respond for others' opinion as well, thanks.

There are 2 one year eligibility periods to consider.
a) The I-693 is valid for 1 year after Civil Surgeon signature to submit to USCIS.
b) The I-693 is valid for 1 year for adjudication purposes after it is received by USCIS.

You could have the medical immediately, regardless of whether you decide to delay your response to the RFE.4. Validity Period of Form I-693 (Including Use of Prior Versions)
Evidentiary Value
A person seeking an immigration benefit and who is subject to medical grounds of inadmissibility must establish that he or she is not inadmissible on medical grounds. [20] In general, those applying for immigration benefits while in the United States must use Form I-693 to show they are free from any conditions that would render them inadmissible.
An officer may determine that the applicant has met the burden of proof required to establish that he or she is free from a medical condition that would render the applicant inadmissible if all of the following criteria are met:
•The medical exam was performed by a USCIS-designated civil surgeon in accordance with HHS regulations;
•The medical examination report was properly completed; [21]
•The medical examination report was submitted to USCIS less than one year after completion of the examination; [22]
•The benefit application [23] is adjudicated no more than one year after the date the medical examination report was submitted to USCIS; [24] and
•The medical examination report establishes that the applicant does not have a Class A medical condition and has complied with the vaccination requirements or is granted a waiver. [25]
Without an irritant, there can be no pearl.
I would say submit the Medicals in the last week of the 84 day window that you have for submitting the medicals..So, make an appointment for medicals which is 2 Weeks before the 84 Day deadline and soon as you get the medicals sealed envelope, submit response.
So technically one can extend the validity of medicals to about 2 years timeframe .
