At least, I am happy to see him fall. Left libber predicted Narendra Modi won't even be regional leader soon, little did he know he won't be with CNN or Time sooner.

Very shocking and sad. I really liked him as well and have been watching his GPS show at 10 on Sundays for a long time now, this explains why there was no show this Sunday. He was really good, i hope it was an error or oversight in his process and not a mistake in his judgement. He was very diligent in attributing quotes and theories on his show.

These news houses like Time & CNN are the real false news makers many a times the truth is flexed and used to satisfy their masters. He is a strong supporter of his parent religious agenda whether he changed his religion or not.. does not matter. In all his programme he have a soft corner for his parent religion.

His version about Narendra Modi is really sick! and should not be tolerated, the same Time magazine reported about Atal Bihari Bajpayi.. that he is having affair with a 24 year old girl!.. sometimes this organisations go to the standard of street evening (Yellow) magazines and news papers.... if it fits their agenda.. I am sure that this guy will be taken back by all means. Of course his political analysis around the world.. with some bias is (in)famous!

Very true. He is happy to provide ex-ISI chief chance to claim 9/11 was inside job. I doubt if he will provide similar chance to "communal person" even if none of the charges are ever proved.

Very True, most of us people from India, because of the pseudo sickular promotion of the government through media and news papers will never think!!!

The following is a good reading material

I think political views and quality of analysis are not exactly have a tight correlation. One or the other can be poor independent of the other simply because views stem from values whereas analysis stems from rational thought.

So while I do tend to vote right in India - I wouldn't completely discount somebody like Zakaria just because he said something contrary to my views.

My surprise here was more related to the fact that he could do such a rudimentary mistake as not giving proper credit where it is due!

p.s. - On a funnier note - because of the topic we are discussing here or whatever -- this site just showed me an ad of some mullah with his website and all !! This is crazy!

The agenda is very subtle!!! unfortunately.
So while I do tend to vote right in India - I wouldn't completely discount somebody like Zakaria just because he said something contrary to my views.---> The contradiction is only for us who thinks secular but for the otherside they can do or say anything, still all the so called secular behaves properly with them supporting their agenda, this always happens.
My surprise here was more related to the fact that he could do such a rudimentary mistake as not giving proper credit where it is due! ------> Q, suprises are meant to happen with these kind of guys anytime anywhere, at least that is what it shows with past expereince.

----> That is really funny!.. another funnier note, but even the internet behaves that way.

I think that would be perhaps the majority of Indians in the US. Right leaning in India, left leaning in the US. As to Fareed, I am a HUGE fan. I believe he has been spot on with respect to almost everything he has described, including his views on Modi. I'm a fan of Modi's economic success, but I do hold him responsible for the Gujarat riots, (not as pre-planned genocide, as the Congress would have us believe, but simply for not preventing or minimizing it; with his smarts, he ought to have crushed the riots within 24 hours, the fact is he did not).

I think CNN is overreacting. I couldn't open the link you shared, but I did look at the Huffpost article that compares his paragraph to the paragraph in the original essay. Yes it is almost a direct copy, but both paragraphs are attributing a set of facts to a 3rd writer. So, if he wanted to be completely fair, Fareed would have written, 'As person B says in her essay, person A says in his book that ....'. That sounds just silly to me. I think he made the call that this was one place where the lack of attribution made sense from a readibility perspective (given that it wasn't original thought of person B that he was discussing, the attribution to Person A was already given), and those that oppose his political views have jumped on to discredit him. I think he'll bounce back soon. At least, I hope he does.

Then how come we didn't see ads from Patel brothers or Indiaplaza when we were discussing the Chappathi Atta ?

Please also explain why we are seeing ads of women looking for older men! Have they also realized that because of the long backlogs-most men visiting this website are nearing menopause!!

You took my thoughts word by word . Even the right in India is much left to the left in US (in terms of economic views) so that would explain your observation.

Interesting, but I am assuming it might also take into account the past browsing history on that pc. But I might be wrong. I have been over the past week or so seeing Delta ad for flight to San Jose on the top banner. It is been months since I accessed delta website. But I do drift between this site, trackitt and the site whose name we shall not utter.

But wrt the topic being discussed, what Fareed did is a hugh issue both in journalistic as well as academic circles. We do routinely use a university provided software to check for plagerism (without references) in student's as well as academic publications. But they are not so strict in everyday journalism (journalism department in an university is a matter altogether different). However, if someone raises an issue it tends to become more than just wafting smoke depending on the number of detractors you've earned over time.

Pedro - I agree w u word for word. I too am a big fan of modi's economic success and a critique of his failure (at the least) to protect innocents (hindus or muslims doesn't matter). Very interesting you mention why Fareed would take the call he did. It seems like CNN Time fundamentally grew weary of his relatively independent views in this "manufactured concensus" world!! OMG I am going Noam Chomsky way

OMG - you too are seeing that? I see that too and wonder I haven't done those kind extra curricular searches and why the hell my computer is showing that to me!!! I will try to fix it going into the adsense account.
p.s.- Just went into adsense and looked .... but i had already blocked all Romance Dating kind of stuff. But did that at category level too. So if you see some more such ads let me know. Worst case we will just have to ban the the google doubleclick ads. That's where that is coming from.

I don't think GhostWriter that's exactly what Pedro said. But I will let him talk to that. I do think there is some truth to what you said because Congress - although is always presumed a right or right of center party - in reality has always been in bed with lefties throughout the history. Juts look at the UPA today. But hey - I will stop commenting on that topic - since it will get too much political and people will jump at each other.

When I read about Fareed's views on Modi, I felt like history was repeating itself. The pro-development leader in Zakeria wants to admire Modi but to appease his masters, he is forced to portray Modi in a certain color...

That being said, I feel a simple apology from Zakeria would have sufficed. There was no need to fire him. He has enough journalistic credentials to have an independent thought. Whether he has enough courage to express them, if it goes against the philosophy of his employers.. thats a different question...
Agree about philosophy of employers being possible motive. Regarding Rafiq Zakaria (Fareed's father), I think he was the minister of education for Govt of Maharashtra under congress government and a good one for that matter. He may have some muslim bias (and I wouldn't blame him if he did) but I think it is safe to say that Fareed comes from a moderate progressive patriotic family.

Larger point is using his failure to act as sole weapon by secular brigade to deny him higher office, even though it's easy to realize bad economic policies can kill, deny good life to millions.

And also, political views invariably affect analysis, for political analysis isn't science. They have too much room to inject subjectivity in creating their narrative. Otherwise, we won't have right-wing journos (das gupta, kanchan gupta etc) and left-wing journos (everyone else) in the country. it's nearly impossible to land on the same side of divide in every issue.

Absolute hokum. He copied one paragraph, and that too, as i'd mentioned earlier, was an attribution to a 3rd writer. He kept that attribution. I my eyes, that is sufficient.

EDIT:- I managed to open the nbc article just now, and it mentions several passages copied from Lepore's April article. I subsequently looked through Lepore's article. I did a word compare against Fareed's article and I find no other similarities. There are 2 other sentences that show up as being common but both are direct quotes by 3rd parties. So, I stand by my original statement. Absolute hokum.

Friends just my two cents with my own bias Iam definitely centre - right. CNN is a political neutral channel, I am not regular with GPS but have watched some episodes and I can definitely concur with those who feel Fareed is left leaning. He supported TARP (Many believe it’s a success as the govt profited in most cases but this is definitely contrary to how the free market should functions where winners should win on their own) and the bailouts and if you have watched the episode on healthcare he does support government run healthcare (PS - Iam no fan of the current healthcare system that we have here wherein the fundamental problem is cost but government run healthcare is also not a great solution). Fareed however is quite neutral on most political issues and quite secular in terms of his leanings. I hope he is back soon; he is pro legal immigration as well.

    Pedro,

    Quoting ChampU below.

He put on a "pro-secular,minority friendly" face to appease his INC political masters..

    unqutoe.

Read this truth about Rafiq Zakaria. whoever under the protection of nehru.. is meant to be great??? founder of educatinal institutions any one can do.

    http://vinod11220.tripod.com/distorsionszakaria.htm
The religion which he belongs to have all the techniques to show them as greats.
    reading from the blog below

If in writing this article, Dr. Zakaria's purpose is to promote communal harmony, I admire him for that. But his effort has been completely wasted. The way to do so is not to distort, deny or whitewash the facts or the past of one’s co-religionists but to accept them as they are and move on.

And again, even Bhuta singh was a carpenter at Nehru's Anand Bhavan doesnot mean that his family is moderate, progressive and patriotic family.
