Yes - the finger printing is only a small part of it. But I have read cases before where ppl have faced delays related to finger printing process e.g. prints not visible properly etc. The FBI only provides info on FP status, they do not provide us details on name check etc. That info is only provided to USCIS and will take more time compared to FP. All in all, atleast one "unknown" has turned into a "known" for me.

Here is a strange situation of one of my friends. His PD Feb 2007, filed in 2007 July fiasco, He received GC approval mail on Oct 11, 2011. Till now he did not received his physical cards, They his biometrics are not available. Few minutes back he called FBI name check number and they informed him that They sent the name check clearance on Sep 23, 2011( a mere 18 days before GC approval).

If your name check is cleared , you may expect card in 2 to 3 weeks. Good luck.

    Simple Cases for Adjudication

CM from the US-Non-Immigrants blogspot has posted some good explanation on simple cases for adjudication. Thought of sharing it below, in case u haven't read it yet:

    http://us-non-immigrants.blogspot.co...ctions-eb.html

Definition of simple case for an USCIS adjudicator is

    a) It is completed in all respect. He does not have to go looking for the information in the system before he makes a decision to ask for initial or additional evidence. They are required to do due diligence before they issue any RFE.

    b) Case where Alien Number file is already generated and available to pull. This file tells all the record when an applicant last entered in US. Records about status maintenance since first entry to US. it has all information about you. If a file is not present it is generated. For most cases it is created during I-140. If you will not write your A# in the I-485 applications, they have to go looking for your information.

    c) Case where FP and BCIS check come complete early. Please note BCIS checks can take some time depending on your country and respective consulates.

    d) Have clean Birth and Marraige Certificates. Adjudicators depending upon experience would know about secondary evidence, others will have to send files to supervisor for review. Please note supervisor is a group leader of 5-10 adjudicators. More cases that will go to him more it will take time for him to approve your case.

    d) Cases were employee currently resides in same state as PERM stated state makes things pretty easier. Any discrepancy requires seeing your EVL and current title. If you are not on site then where are you? Anyone working at client site could require additional review. Simple case will be you are currently working with sponsored employer at stated salary.

    e) If your company is acquired, mergered or changed names, your company information is checked along http://www.dnb.com/ site. If they cannot find your company name in the list. more review is required. It may require calling your employer to verify. If 180 days are past, you may receive RFE for new EVL.

    f) Last but not the least, it all depends upon when and who picks up your case file.

These are just examples of complications which can increase processing times for a case. Anything that is straight forward will be approved by USCIS adjudicators wihout consulting with or sending it to supervisor for blessing. No one cares if it is a STEM or Business applicant. If you work for small or big company. As long as you and company are not blacklisted you are good.

    needid,
I called the FBI number again for name check, the rep said that they only provide info on FP status. She asked me whether this was GC purpose and gave a no for USCIS (202-324-2399). Called that no and got a recorded response that they no longer accept name check status requests over the phone and to refer the FBI FAQ page, etc etc.... deadlock condition......

Is there a separate no for name check that your friend used. Any more info would be useful. Thanks.

Nobody needs to sign for the EAD letters. They just drop it as ordinary mail.

Sorry, After reading your earlier post which mentioned you have called Name Check , i suggested my friend to call the number (304-625-5590, from username post) to check if it is stuck with his biometrics stuff. When my friend called it a was a lady. Try some other time you may hit a different officer.

also for porters who were already in due to the July 2007 fiasco, their 485 is already pre-adjudicated. when they port from eb3 to eb2, and inform USCIS about this interfiling, the existing 485 can be approved just like that anytime, it is then considered to be under the Eb2 category and visa number available.

Status of Child will be AOS. His AOS is pending, the filing receipt of 485 is the proof of status.

EAD is not proof of status. It is just a document authorizing a alien to be able to work with or without conditions attached as applicable, he still needs to maintain valid status by other means.

Guys - a quick but urgent question - is EAD timeline linked with any RFE or FP timeline? What I am asking is, first, if I get an RFE on my 485, does that delay the issue of EAD as well? Second, doing FP earlier (walk-in) is any help in getting EAD earlier - does USCIS wait for FP to happen before issuing EAD?

Thanks for your attention - I am so close to filing and need to make some urgent decisions. I will remove this post and replies to appropriate thread in a day or so.

    imdeng,
Unless you get RFE on your i765/i131 it should not delay your Combo card. Also FP appointment/completion is not a must for EAD/AP approval.
Not a Legal advice/opinion, please check with good immigration attorney.
