Can someone help me understand ?

Do you get the RD and ND via email or something? Coz I see the RD is a day after the MD.

Or..Do you get to know your RD and ND only after you receive the actual receipts (NRD) which is typically a week later?

MD is mailing date when you sent the packet to USCIS lockbox. So you already know it, since you or lawyer mailed it.

RD is receipt date, that is date when USCIS says they got the packet physically.
ND is notice date, that is date when USCIS says they officially generated receipt for you. In the days in between, the packet waits for processing, to be picked up, opened, scanned, verified for initial checks like signatures, checks.
Only when you get the actual receipt notice in hand, you will be able to see the RD and ND as stated on the notice.

and hence, always, MD < RD < ND

Thanks for the explanation..Now. I did not send the G 245 (to get intimations), will the receipt be sent to my lawyer by USPS? In your case did you get the receipts to your home address?

Or did you get an email alert for the receipt as well?

    I think you mean G1145.

If your lawyer has filed G-28, then he will also get an attorney copy.

You will always get via postal mail to ur home address regardless of G-28.

This is how it worked for me, since they changed the status. you will still get only one card for applicant.

All I remember seeing was LINxxxxxxxx some numbers. Then I checked case status online and saw updates. I swear I have never enjoyed a drink more than that time.

    need advice

I will be current in Feb 2011 (PD : Oct09). I have a planned visit back to India in March/April for my Dad's medical condition. From what I have read, If I apply for my EAD/AP, then I will probably have to wait for 3-4 months(till I get my EAD) before I can leave the country. In this situation, does it make sense not to apply for AP?

In that case will it be possible for me to still go back home and return on my valid H1B visa, when my EAD is being processed?

Any insight is appreciated, and I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong forum

  14. #1139
If you have a valid H1 visa you can come back using the visa and EAD/AP processing can go on while you are away. The only condition is you need to be in US when your application is filed. After it is filed you can leave the country and come back on a valid H or L visa.

thanks goforgreen. when you say "when your application is filed" what period is that?is it till when the USCIS gives us a notice that it received the documents for 485 and EAD/AP?

  16. #1141
Yes, have the receipts in hand before you leave. You have a valid stamp correct or are you planning for stamping as well?

Thanks gc0907, yes have receipts in hand before travelling out of US. Also as gc0907 asked do you have a valid stamp? If yes then it will be fine, if not there is an additional event of visa stamping before you can come back.

yes i have a valid H1B, no re-stamping needed, so hopefully RD will not be a long time.. that's good to know, thanks gc0907 and goforegreen.

just for my understanding, why do they say don't travel if EAD/AP is being processed, is it for folks who need to renew H1s?

yes, fly as soon as you or your attorney get the receipt notice. In my case attorney got the receipts a week earlier than me.

Guys: I received receipt notices for all (485/EAD/AP) except for my wife's EAD, in 10 days after filing. I thought I will receive her EAD receipt notice in separate mail later. Later we just received FP notices. In my wife's FP notice I see her 485/EAD receipt number listed.

Would not having separate receipt notice for her EAD application cause any problem in later stage? Does it mandate calling USCIS. Its been 8-9 weeks since we filed application. Also as said the SRC number is listed in FP notice and I cold see the online status, just that I don't have separate receipt notice. Thanks.

What about fingerprinting? If you don't show up for fingerprinting it would be a problem. I don't know what is answer to this problem. Maybe if you are taking a quick short trip of a week, you can take a chance.

Teddy similarly did not get his own 485 receipt, but everything else. He called to make service request, in service request reply they said wait for another 45-60 days or something like that, and he still has not got his duplicate receipt notice.

If you are using a lawyer, he too gets attorney copies, maybe you can ask for those.

I have exact situation as yours. I again got text messages last night. we had our FP completed yesterday and thought may be it prompted for the second set of approval messages. I was also thinking the same that we might get two set of cards one with FP & other with out.

    Very good point Nishant.

    mbasense,
Make sure you don't miss your FP appointment.
From the reports in this thread, FP notices and appointments with TSC is faster than NSC(I got Receipt after 40 days and apt 58 days from ReceiptDate)
So plan your travel accordingly or make arrangements so you can re-schedule your FP to later date.

For your EAD/AP processed question, I think it's for those who are on EAD and not having valid visa/stamp to re-enter.

    Thumbs up use H1b

As long as you have a valid H1b visa + papers, you are good for travel. File your EAD & AP in parallel. They are not mutually exclusive. So, even if you file for AP, you can continue to use H1b for travel.
