    A Japanese Haiku

Here is a Japanese Haiku I read long time back in a book "Glimpses of my golden childhood" - by Osho. I do not remember who the poet is.

    Ancient Pond
    Frog Jumps In
    Plop!

The poet is saying there is an ancient pond - meaning a pond that hasn't changed much for years decades and centuries. A frog comes along, jumps in the water. That makes a sound, a splash. And that't it. It's just a splash. Nothing more nothing less. The pond remains the same.

One can say that the world is that pond. We along with all our aspirations, desires, achievements and failures are like that frog. We jump in and make a splash. But the pond doesn't change.

This is not to say that we shouldn't jump in .... however the perspective helps control our emotions.

p.s. - There is a similar poem by Adi Shankaracharya called "Tat: Kim". In case some may have already read it.

One more Japanese Haiku poem, is it about life or computer?

Tada Kim, Tada Kim, Tada Kim,

I think Q is talking about Guruvastakam of Adi Shankaracharya. adding Sanskrit verses and translation link here.

    http://stotraratna.awardspace.com/stotra/Other/o8.pdf

    Sareeram swaroopam Thada va kalathram,
Yasas charu chitram dhanam Meru thulyam,
    Gurongri padme, Manaschenna lagnam,
Tada kim, tada kim, tada kim, tada kim. 1

    Meaning

    Even if one is blessed,
    With handsomely perfect body,
    Blessed with a pretty wife,
    With fame from all quarters,
And with riches heaped liked mountain,
If his mind does not bow,
Before the feet of his teacher great,
What is the use? What is the use?
What is the use? What is the use?)
