    Lightbulb I Wonder Why

This one is by the great physicist Richard Feynman. One can find this in his book - "Surely you are joking Mr. Feynman". A hilarious yet insightful book. The episode about this poem is no exception.

    Here it goes .... !

I Wonder Why. I Wonder Why.

    I Wonder Why I Wonder.

I Wonder Why I Wonder Why I Wonder Why I Wonder.

Q, I am another big fan of Feynman and I also read his book "Surely you are joking Mr. Feynman". It is awesome...
Apart from that there are wonderful interviews of Feynman available on Youtube (Pleasure of finding things out). This excerpt is one of my fav http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YltEym9H0x4

Such genius are born only few times in a century.

RD .... as expected great video. Thanks.

If you liked his first book then you may also like another one by him "What do you care what people think". Check it out.

On another note - did you know that he not only received a nobel in Physics but almost missed a nobel in biology. He worked with Watson and Creek on DNA in Brazil ( I think) and left them 1 month earlier than when they found the helix DNA structure etc. If he had stayed even 1 more month, he would be the third person on that body of work and might have received nobel along with them in future.

    Q,

Excellent one, I respect his knowledge, but Nobel prize is not given nowadays for people who deserves, it became Nobel Price. that priZe became a politically and religiously influenced playground, there are lot of underserving people receiving this price.(prize)

Again we have In our Motherland Bharath The Greatest knowledge The knowlege of SELF. The Upanishads.

for example Swami Vivekananda,.. "The complete works of Swami Vivekananda " is a must read for all Bharath vasis and NRIs.

And again. "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda.

"Art of Man Making" by Swami Chinmayananda"

and many more to add. They never got any Nobel Prize but they are above all the Prizes. Of course I am not mixing apples with oranges, but spirituality is not different from science as most of us think! Self Knowlege or Vedanta starts where the science ends. :-)

immitime what you say is true about the peace prize. But the physics chemistry and biology prizes are fairly reputed ones. Yes there are examples of genuine inventors being denied their dues ... but overall they are rare. The peace prize is a nonsense prize especially when people like Henry Kissinger received it and Mahatma Gandhi didn't.

But the science related ones are pretty good ones. I am not wise enough to speak about the ones missed in science. But being an ex-physics student I found it quite ironic that Einstein received his nobel not for relativity but for photo-electric effect!!

As per vedanta and upanishands (one and the same thing really!) I think thats a bit tangential to me to compare them w modern sciences. However Mathematics is something that is totally Indian .. including calculus. There is just no doubt about it and yet so few people realize that the entire branch of mathematics so crucial to our modern lives was founded and flourished in India before the Arabs transported it to Europe in 14th century or so.

True, I was referring to Nobel Peace prize, but the modern day science is nowhere near the real Sastra. But the science can give us material benefits, comforts, that some think that is the ultimatum! but Truth is different.

Going back to Feynman, he really detested 'prizes' and 'honors'. He thought of not accepting Nobel prize, but eventually accepted it because not accepting would create a greater furor (eventually he did bought a nice home on beach in California with prize money and i recently read that anyone can rent that house for vacations). Any how...this video summarizes his attitude towards 'honors'.

In his words..."the real prize is Pleasure of finding the thing out...kick of the discovery.."

immitime - I scanned through and most of it is above my paygrade !!! Whether Mr. Sharma is right or wrong .... who knows? But he has hell of a grasp of physics. I wish I had those kind of brains.
