Lightbulb Post - GC Career Discussion

Great post Spec, I completely agree. Thanks for your points Teddy, these are very well thought out points.

I salute the Gurus here Q, Teddy, Spec to time and again make sense of the black box process of USCIS. Thanks a lot for helping us understand this process, this forum and the previous thread of Q in the other site helped me to a great extent to stay calm while waiting to apply for 485 for 4 years.

I wish all gurus the best for your future. Are there any thoughts on continuing the camaraderie of this site after all the gurus and regular contributors get their GCs. How about helping each other with jobs and career advice?

    Guys,
It's about 10 to 12 months many of us here got greened. Anyone switched employers like in A-B-C model, moved from A to B or directly from A to C?
Not sure though how the non-competence agreement play in these scenarios...

Requesting for suggestions and advice from everyone.

I've been working with big Indian IT service companies all along for last 14 years. Now that I've an option to move I was wondering the route to take

    1) Take up a permanent job with direct companies - Stability and benefits will be good (also no more offshore calls), but have seen people lose technical edge and become totally dependent on bosses for everything (increments and promotions)
    2) Join another consulting company - Dont want to travel so the big 5 are ruled out for now, interested in small-midsize IT consulting company (not staffing), pay will be good, but dont know of many real consulting companies that are not staffing firms
    3) Stay put at present company - Pay is ok and if I go to next level it will be even better, but next level is a steep climb and will not happen for 2-3 years and many people have given up and moved to different companies
    4) Take up contracting through a staffing company - Pay will be good, but health and other things I need to take care, what I've seen is you can get good billing 12 to 18 months after that client either wants you to become permanent or he will end the contract

I realise there are pros and cons to everything, but I want to know your experiences in each of these as I've not seen the grass on the other side
