    stolen documents

    I need help.
My wife and son (2 year) are visiting india and their all documents were stolen in Mumbai from my wife's bag.
Documents include: My wife's passport (indian) , EAD/AP combo card, I-485 original,
My son's Passport(US) and his OCI card.

Right now their return ticket is for 3rd march. I am having hard time finding good information on the process after lost/stolen AP document to return back to US.

    Thanks in advance

Q9. If I lose or damage this card, how do I get another one?
A9. To obtain a replacement card, you must file the Application for Employment Authorization, Form I-765, and Application for Travel Document, Form I-131, concurrently, with the appropriate fee of $380 for the I-765 and $360 for the I-131. Although individuals who file under the current fee structure obtain their first card at no cost, they are required to pay the current application fee(s) for any card that USCIS replaces due to loss, negligence or damage. Visit www.uscis.gov/fees for more information.
I don't have any personal insight - I am sure folks with expertise will chime in with how to go about getting a replacement AP. I am sure these things happen on the regular - folks losing their EAD/AP while travelling - so I am sure there would be a process for getting replacement card. Just that the process might take some time.

jackbrown - ask them to approach US consulate in Mumbai to obtain your son's passport. They will definitely do that given your son is citizen. Possibly they will also help your wife with AP and help your wife reenter US.

Meanwhile of course your wife must obtain a new Indian passport. I am not sure if they still issue an urgent replacement and how. LEts see what others have to say.

Wish things sort out at earliest.

    Thanks.

Yes, they will be visiting the consulate today. I was just checking if anyone here had been thru this so I can tell them to do the same. I will keep you guys posted what we find out from the consulate. We still hope whoever stole my wife's purse can take the money and return the documents. (I know it is not going to happen)
I am just not sure how can I apply for her duplicate AP while she is still in India.

Update: I still cant believe this. The person who stole my wife's bag with all the documents; took the money and dropped the documents bag in a post box. Local postman found the bag and took it to the police station and police called my wife and returned the documents. (only charged what they call "finding fee" of Rs. 5000.). I am happy to pay some reward money to the postman too if we can find him.
Again, thank you all for your suggestions.
