Getting Parents Full time to live in USA

    Hi Guys,

I am sure some of us might have explored all the possibilities and ways we can get our parents to live with us. I am not talking about visitor visa and having parents for 6 months. If we have to get them permanantly here, how does it work?

    - If you are a PR and not a US citizen, is there any way to get them stay here legally? How would the medical insurance work?
    - IF you are a US Citizen, then I guess we can apply for their GC.

Any thoughts/suggestions will be greately appreciated. thanks.

The only way parents can stay full time (i.e. 12 months) in US it by having a GC (assuming none of them wants to do H F or L visa ... a fair assumption!!).

Two of my friends' moms used to spend time 6 on 6 off between US and Mumbai/Pune. Eventually both were nicely warned by IOs about not doing so after which they immediately applied for citizenship. So even getting a GC means parents would've to stay more than 6 months to safely keep GC in good standing.

But bigger than ability to stay is the problem with health insurance. Prior to citizenship the parents will have to buy medical insurance. A very costly affair. (unless you can find some government programs which are now a days difficult but not impossible. explore local county health office).

After they become citizen - parents are eligible for medicare (after 68 I believe). But medicare too has 2 parts. For a person to be eligible for both parts, the person must have worked 40 quarters in US. Otherwise one has to buy medicare insurance. That comes to around 580 dollars per month for my friend's mom. I think most of the 580 is towards part A and part B is provided by government.
