Thread: Post 485-Filing

Guys - A quick question - If your I-140 gets approved at a specific service center, does your 485 application (applied when the pd gets current, a couple of years after 140 approval) also get routed to the same service center as 140 or is the allocation random?

  2. #1752
Mine went to the same service center, NSC

Technically, it must. In certain scenarios, when a service center is overwhelmed with applications they get routed to another. Unfortunately that hasn't happened yet.

Initially (I read somewhere...) the lockbox sends it to service center based on I-140 SC but the service centers can tranfer internally if they want.

Just out of curiosity and the reason why a pic is taken during FP when we have already given it along with I -485 app

FYI: On EAD and GC, the photos appear in black in white shade and not colored.

Not true. I've seen at least 2 posts on trackitt in the last week from people who got rerouted from TSC to NSC. If trackitt comes back up, I'll try to find them and post the link.

Quick question. My wife has an A # (from her F1 OPT EAD) and we included that in her application. However the notice that came back had assigned her a new A#. My lawyer says that doesn't matter since she's the dependent. Did anyone else have the same issue?

Kind of similar, not exactly same, sharing anyways, I had OPT EAD card as student, which had a Alien number. I was however, when I-140 was approved given a new alien number, and that's the alien number that has persisted going forward.

A# for OPT EAD is not transferrable to a 485 based case. In F1, you still have a non-immigration intent. You are good - don't worry about it.

A# in F1/OPT has no bearing/relation to A# on GC. In the first place, you should have left the field empty on the application. IMHO, CIS did the right thing.

    Soggadu bhai,

I am in the same boat. Received emails/SMS that both mine and my wife's EAD/AP have been approved/card production ordered on the 26th of Jan. My wife's card arrived by USPS priority mail on the 30th Jan. My wife's EAD status also changed to 'USPS delivered the mail'. My status still remains EAD approved, you will receive a notice. I just called the USCIS today and opened a service request. Hoping to receive my EAD/AP card soon.

Yes you guys are right. I checked my OPT EAD card and the A# on it was different from the A# on my I140.

Perhaps I should have. I generally leave these things to the lawyers. Sometimes they do the right things, and sometimes they leave incorrect A#s in the application forms and send your packet out by snail mail. One can only look upon them with gentle reproach in ones eyes and a resigned smile on ones lips.

I know where you're coming from. One of those guys had an RD just one day before mine. I was optimistically waiting for my notice hoping mine would have been routed to the NSC too, but no such luck. Trackitt is very flaky at the moment, but the posts I was referring to was in the "Jan filers gather here" thread, posted somewhere between 31st Jan and 3rd Feb. One guy posted that his application went to NSC instead of TSC and another responded saying that the same had happened to him as well.

Pedro, leo, be careful in what you wish for

Per my lawyer, if your 485 file goes to a Service Center, that did not process your I-140, the 485 service center requests a transfer of the I-140 file also to itself, and that process takes a random amount of time, per my lawyer, upto a month at least, and the 485 file meanwhile has good chances of slipping under the cracks. So there is an inherent delay in case of such transfers. It is better that your 485 be serviced by same service center as your I-140.

This conversation had come up with my lawyer at time of filing, because he said the lockbox might give to NSC or CSC in my case. He said 99% will go to NSC, but in rare chance it goes to CSC, there will be delay, because CSC will also need to get 140 file transferred from NSC to itself.

Does this applies to CP-->AOS scenario where file needs to be transferred from NVC to USCIS. My file was sent to NVC in October(even thought we have not opted for CP), when we contacted NVC they said that they will hold the file(I-140) until USCIS requests for the file. My 485 application(PdJun2008) was filed on Jan4th 2012 with TSC--ND Jan6th2012--Received Receipt on Jan10th 2012, we have not received FP yet i was wondering does this file transfer is the reason for delay.

Normally how long does USCIS take to send request(File) to NVC has anyone experienced this before.

Tried to open SR for FP but got response from USCIS saying that one can open SR for FP only after 30 days from the day receipt was received by the applicant.

Guys, have any of you called FBI for fingerprinting status check. If so, what exactly did you ask them.

I want to call, but kind of feeling nervous

I did, right after 24 hours from my FP. Tell them that you've had a FP done at so and so ASC and you want to make sure everything is alright. The only information that they are allowed to provide and you definitely want to hear is that if the Finger prints are 'legible'.

btw, I was nervous too, calling fbi I think it's ok to be nervous.

I did. I went for an early walk in too. Called them a week before my 'actual' scheduled date just to confirm if they have processed the FPs. They did on the same day I had the FPs done.
