cos when h4 extension is pending

Hi
My h4 visa expires this dec and my spouse has applied for extension,I m planning to convert to f1 for summer 2014. My question here is can I apply cos when h4 extension is pending ? Or should I wait till the decision comes to file for cos? I was concerned as cos takes 4 months and i need f1 by may.

Hi ygvc27,
I was in the same situation last year. From what i know, it's never a good idea to have two applications for different visas together in USCIS system. They may process your F1 first and H4 later in which case your latest status would be active or they may get confused seeing two different applications and send RFE or deny one. I too was running out of time to apply for F1 so I upgraded my H4 extension to premium. Once my H4 was out of the system, within 10 days of its receipt, I applied for F1 which took two months.
