Change of status -B1 to H1

I am here in b1 status. I have a post-doc offer from US university and soon will graduate this year from non-US university. Can I do paperwork using a lawyer to get it done here without going to India for H1 stamping. I presume there is no quota for this H1. Another question will they cancel my 10 year B visa when I apply for H1.

Your reply will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't know how you are graduating from non us school while u r here, but any ways you can request change from any status to any e.g. b1 to h1 while in us. You may get approval as well. But I don't know if this is advisable I.e. b to h. Once your status changed old visa is invalid.atleast in my opinion.
