Or should I start a thread on Basmati rice instead?!
Talking of Basmathi rice, is there anyone who is seen or bought brown basmathi rice? I've tried all the local stores. I am getting to think it is myth.

I was actually referring to that thread and I was a part of it and I think we agreed on Sujatha brand
I was following the Zakaria thread and I felt that things were probably getting slightly heated and just felt we should move to something different.

I think I have seen/bought it at some point. Try Amazon.com under Grocery and Gourmet food and a few brands like Bombay & Himalayan pride are available. I am not sure of the quality/taste etc. I have started eating cracked wheat in place of rice now

I did some more research for you and Patel brothers has SWAD brand of brown basmati rice listed on their online website

    www.patelbrothersusa.com

I remember you writing that you were in the MSP area. When we lived in South Dakota we always used overnight shipping from Asia imports on Central avenue as they had a larger catalog and you might want to try there also

    Good luck

Thanks a lot. That is wonderful. I had almost lost hope when one of my colleagues said he can get it in Panama (I mean Panama with the canal). I can drive to Asia Imports from Chanhassen. I will check it out this weekend. I also never thought of checking on Amazon. Thanks a bunch. Appreciate your help.

My 2 cents on Quinoa. Mix it with brown rice (basmati or otherwise) and you wont find any difference in taste. Compared to white rice, quinoa definitely is an acquired taste. The few times that we have a white rice based entree at a restaurant the difference is noticeable. The taste is good for the white rice (probably due to the carb rush) but the after effects in terms of an upset stomach & an afternoon crash (once the carb effect wears off) is a big negative.

Quick tip - if you are on the fence between white/brown, try the brown rice option at Chipotle a couple of times. Similar to Indian curries, the salsa at Chipotle will mask the taste of brown rice and make you feel full quickly.
