Can Indian PP holder Transit Landside without UK Visa for 24 hrs

Need some personal experiences with "Transit Landside without UK Visa" for 24 hrs.
My friend is travelling from US to India, with stopover in Heathrow for 24 hours to connecting flight to India.

Can Indian PP holder with US Green Card, get into the UK Transit Landside without UK Visa? Can he enter UK for 24 hours and then return to the airport to catch the connecting flight? I live in London and he would like to meet me during his Flights Layover time.

Has anyone been in this situation? Please share your experiences, as that would help greatly meet my old friend.

As I read it, your friend might be able to take advantage of the "travel without visa" concession because, although they are classed a a "Visa National", he has a GC.

'Transit without visa' concession

If you are a visa national or recognised as stateless, you may be able to transit the UK landside without a visa. To qualify for this exemption:

• you must arrive and depart by air;
• your onward flight must be confirmed, and must depart within 24 hours; and
• you have proper documentation for your destination, including a visa if necessary

They would therefore fall into the third class below:

You can transit the UK landside without a visa if:

• you are not a visa national; or
• you hold a valid travel document issued by the UK government; or
• you are a visa national or recognised as 'stateless' and meet the 'transit without visa concession - see under 'More information' below

Note that to take advantage of this, the onward flight needs to depart with 24 hours of arrival.

If that is not the case, then he would need to apply for:

• a visitor in transit visa, if you will be staying in the UK for less than 48 hours; or
• another type of visitor visa, if you will be staying in the UK for longer than 48 hours or if you will be travelling on to the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

It might depend on the timings of the flights as to whether the stay is less than, or more than the 24 hours allowed

The "concession" is typically given when travelling with an American national. e.g. my admin was a mexican american. She was a citizen but her mom was GC holder and citizen of mexico. She travelled to UK with her mom without realizing mom would require a visa. But the UK immigration allowed her mom entry into UK because - according to them - she was travelling with a US citizen. It is possible they might do it on an exceptional basis to an individual alone. But just keep this experience in mind.

Without knowing the full circumstances, it is difficult to comment as to whether she met the requirements for a landside transit without a visa. If she was just visiting the UK, then she would have needed a visa.

Was she "in transit" to another Country with a flight leaving within 24 hours of arrival?

Hi my situation. Flying from US to India with Indian PP and US Green Card and will be changing airport. My outgoing flight is within 3.5 hours. I read the Transit visa concession and to me it appears I qualify for the concession. Was trying to see if someone had experience.
