Nishant, after going thr all the resources, I feel that expiration is valid for tests and not for vaccines. That too because I don't have record for vaccines I had in childhood. If someone has that report even it will be waived it seems.

    Hi Kd2008,

Thanks for posting this URL and the Note 52 which says "If giving MMR simultaneously with tuberculin skin test, use the Mantoux test, not multiple puncture tests, because the latter, if results are positive, require confirmation (and confirmation would then have to be postponed 4-6 weeks).".

IN USA Mantoux test is performed and the multiple puncture test was performed earlier in UK based on this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantoux_test

The guide is written considering all the tests available in different countries. So i guess we should be ok considering that MAntoux Test is performed in USA. So even if we are getting the TB and the MMR done from our primary on the same day or at a later day it should be ok as this note is not relevant for Mantoux Test.

I guess the take away is to confirm with your primary if they are doing the Mantoux or not. Your thoughts on this.

    Thanks

    Goto page 14, Note 52:

Don't be penny wise pound foolish to skimp a few bucks out your pocket and get the vaccination reimbursed through insurance. The civil surgeon in my town said they won't file and deal with insurance claim. If I get the shots done with my primary physician then they are not responsible if the medical report they write is incomplete etc.

If your PD is long ways away from being current, then I guess this is not an issue.

Hi All, great info here on vaccinations...thanks!!!

My PD is 11/15/07...is it too early or good time to start looking into getting medicals done? pls advise.

hey all... i guess gchopefulls two part vaccination theory is still the best option for people like me, N and srd4gc who are >= oct 07...
I see lot of people confusing with this...
    1. The medical tests are valid for 1 year
    2. Vaccinations you take are valid till you get into heaven ( make sure u carry a history report of vaccinations ;-) )

    khel khatam dukaan bhand...

    gchopeful,

Which doc did u visit in jersey?? I live in central jersey too...

    Hey Soggadu,

Good to know that you are also in "apun ka desi area"

For PCP, i followed my friends advise and went to Dr. Hitesh R Patel, MD at 1804 OAK TREE RD. Luckily he was within in-network for insurance. The reason I went there was they do blood tests and vaccinations in their office i.e you dont need to go to Quest diagnostics etc. I think most PCPs do this but some PCPs do not have this facility.

If you are not sure of your vaccination or do not have the record, blood test can be done to determine whether you need the vaccine or not..... alternatively you can just get the vaccine. Of course all this is much cheaper if you can get this done through your PCP in prep for the civil surgeon. All except the Syphilis test and the TB spot test.

If my understanding is correct, we can get all the vaccines from our PCP except Syphilis, TB spot test and Physicals. Why can't we have syphilis and TB spot test done at PCP too ??

  10. #110
You can get these (Syphilis, TB spot test) done from your PCP too but it will be a waste of time. For these 2, the USCIS only recognizes tests administered by the Civil surgeon.

Thanks a ton.. I followed your advise and have appointment for PCP for my titers and flu shot (not sure whether is required or not but no harm in getting it done) next week.. My PD is Sep 2007 and want to be ready..
Seems like Civil surgeon is going to take major chunk of pie with Syphilis, TB spot test and Physicals..

which state? how did u approach them... tell me all the gossip regarding this....

  14. #114
This was in Pennsylvania. If you live around you can as well visit and get the shots done. In fact they covered everything except Flu shots during the first dose, the second appointment was after a month and they gave flu shots as well. I have a followup appointment after 6 months again for 3rd dose (some vacs) to complete the course.

  15. #115
Will look it up and tell u later.

Any civil surgeon recommendations around Seattle, WA?

  18. #118
    Iam damm confused.
Can someone summarize what we can get done ahead of time with PCP (primary care physician)

So far I gathered we do these at pcp office,

    1. tetanus proof else get shots
    2. mmr (blood test) if 30+
    3. titter (chicken pox, blood test)

    At civil surgeons office,

    1. Physical
    2. Syphilis test (and vaccine if required later)
    3. TB test (and followup if required later)
    4. get forms filled

    please confirm.

If someone has PPD skintest (TB) 5mm - negative, do they need to go for chest X ray?

I was told negative needn't go for Xray. But as per the I693 form, if 5mm or more need to get chest X ray (the form doesnt talk postive or negative). I'm confused, so can someone clarify?

(My local city health dept is doing MMR/tdap for free and TB test for $7. As a person not getting paid by vendor for past 6 months, I'm using this option).

aka Tetanus booster or Tdap is valid for 5 years for USCIS, for doctors they say you are fine for next 10 years
    2. mmr (blood test) if 30+
I think it is for 1+ yrs old and again proof or blood test to verify or get shots
    3. titter (chicken pox, blood test)
Varicella, proof or blood test to verify or get shots

    At civil surgeons office,

    1. Physical
    2. Syphilis test (and vaccine if required later)
    3. TB test (and followup if required later)
    4. get forms filled

    please confirm.
and everything looks good strategy.. many of my friends visited Surgeon directly who frankly told them to get vaccines from county camps and bring the proof

You may come i do not know if they will or won't entertain. Since you will be coming from NJ one tip is vaccination is done by appointments only so get that one ahead of time and show up for appointment.

    Here is the website
