But if your GC was employment-based, and you were sponsored for a teaching job at a school, for example, and right after you got your green card, you changed your career dramatically and took up a high-paying job in a totally unrelated industry, the government might question you on whether the teacher job was just a ruse. They do random audits on recently issued GCs. It might also come up if you apply for citizenship.
Theoretically, you are free to do whatever you want with a GC, but to be safe, at least for the first 2 years, stay within the same industry, job, and pay-scale.
