Friends Thanks again! Here is the letter to Senator that I wrote. If you like it you can change relevant information and rewrite. To be honest I have no clue whether writing such a letter helped at all. But what's there to lose?

Honorable Dear Senator XXXX,

I am writing to seek your help on a personal important matter. Since [485 receipt date] I am waiting for my own and my wife's Green Card cases with USCIS to be approved. Our dates are current now. If your office could help expedite the processing of our cases, we would be extremely thankful to you. The case numbers are:
xxxxxxxxxx - [applicant name]
xxxxxxxxxx - [applicant name]

We have been in this country for about XX years now. Had XX wonderful children here. I work for XXXXX in XXXX as a XXXXX.
Not having a Green Card has hindered our plans to purchase a home and start a business among other things. We have been good members of the society with good education, and track record of community service and other contributions to good causes. We would be very excited to become permanent residents.

I really appreciate your kind attention and would like to profoundly thank you in advance for your help.

Please accept our sincere thanks & best wishes for your service and dedication to the community as well.

p.s. - in response to somebody asked .... yes our children were born here. So fortunately we never had to worry about kids' visa etc. Got their PIOs ASAP so that India was easy. But its weird that they couldn't get Indian Citizenship which I strongly want them to have. However some weird government rules are prohibiting that.

On another note, do you generally carry GC with you all the time ? I am aware that the law says you must have the card with you all the time but was wondering how many of you actually do it ?

I am not aware of a rule that says you have to carry the original. So may be carrying a copy is something I will do.

Thanks for the note. I think I am partly responsible for this delay as at the beginning I wasn't sure of staying in US for that long and wasn't too serious about applying for green card. Most of my fellow classmates have become US citizens quite a while back but well, that's life. Thankfully this long journey had a happy ending!

Nishant your lawyer is 100% right. I NEVER had any difficulty whatsoever during GC or F1 or H1. In fact during one of my H1 stampings at Mumbai (oink oink) consulate, I didn't even have proper documentation. But the guy kept talking with me about phoenix weather and stamped it anyway.

Fyi, This what I did after getting current in October:
Oct 3: opened congressional enquiry
Oct 6: got response that FBI clearance done, visas available, give them 30 days .
Oct 13: opened SR with L2 officer.
I don't know if doing any of above helped, maybe the approval was just random.
But I suspect that it was the SR and not the congressman that might have helped because when I talked to the L2 officer, he didnt indicate that the files were with an adjudicating officer. He just said that the cases are under review and pending and visas are available.

Congratulations to all who are greened. My pd is 06/25/07, today I spoke to usics and the officer said "This I 485 application has been placed on hold pending review and adjudication. You should receive some type of response within 2 to 3 months." I am wondering what is HOLD mean.

Soni, It probably means ,it's at the adjudication service area pending review by a officer.Nothing to worry about in my opnion. I have read on Trackitt different L2 officers also give different stories. Were you able to open an SR with the L2 officer..?

Got my card today. My case was actually approved on Oct 17 but I got decision email on Oct 19 and the card today
The card actually looks blue instead of green :)

Arey uncle a doc can't treat his own illness right.... I know u mentioned it for fun... Hey you know what my doc gave me all the vaccines Again... Now I am feeling like I might become one of those X men taking same vaccines so many times... I would be called V MAN....

dude I wouldn't mind him giving me anything, I will stretch out one arm, and in the other arm hand out the new COSTCO american express card :)

have to say though that I am afraid of injections, it's been a long time.

what not we did for GC, including getting stripped down and injected!

I had a restless one last night, Nov 1 07 somehow was morphing into Nov 8 07, and I almost shrieked that Nooooo Make it Nov 15 07, I can't apply if it's 8.
damn, need to take a break.
