just voted:
I like essenel's suggestion..Ashraya..i checked their site,,and they also have program called sponsor a child, and i liked their educational outreach program..... i have come across other similar programs in the past,,but this does look like more grassroot effort..i would definitely support it..
we all are here b'cuz we were lucky enough to have good education....and so i would actually request everyone to, once in their life time, sponsor 1 child's education for at least 1 year.
jackbrown, I completely agree. Sponsoring a child's education or at least providing some level of sponsorship can be extremely helpful to that child and it doesn't cost that much either. It's usually a small monthly amount like $25, but it can go a long way for that child. Most good charities do not directly give the money to the child's family (because it can be misused). Instead, they buy educational supplies, clothes, etc and pay tuition fees for the child.
Friends,
We donated $121 to Ashraya Initiative today as majority of you voted for this month.
Thanks for your involvement and votes. For next month if there are charities of your interest...pls feel free to mention.
Happy new year!

Thanks to all for their support of this forum.
ps. - Also donated $20 to 247sports.com - an organization that works for tobaccofree youths.
Friends,
From our February ad revenue we donated $100 today to Blakes Miracle
It's a charity that supports children health and drowning prevention.
Thank you all since your visits allowed this!
For the month of March, we donated in advance to Ekal Vidyalaya a small sum of $51. It's a great charity doing great work for the underpriviledged and tribal students from remote/tribal areas of India. They run over 30,000 schools in India with over 1M students. It's a great success story and great work.
Friends,
For April we donated $191 and committed additional $200 for May and $200 for Jun to NadRoop - a Pune India based non-profit. It is an Indian Classical Dance School that promotes Kathak and its fusion with contemporary music and art forms. They are celebrating their silver jubilee this year.
As you know we donate this money through the ad revenue of this site. So thanks to you all for that.
Friends,
Forgot to update that we allocated additional $200 from our monthly revenue towards NaadRoop during this month. As you know this forum is run as not-for-profit and so we donate the monthly revenues (quote often more) to charitable and social organizations.
Friends,
Header updated with Jun Donations. Just to remind - these donations are made out of the advertising revenue from this site. So thanks to all of you.

Friends,
It's been a while since the last donations. We have about $100 we can donate. Please suggest names and then we can vote on them.
If we don't receive new names - we will just go round robin! So pl do suggest good non-profit charities.
I am not sure if this charity (Vibha) has been suggested earlier.

Q,
I would suggest Sphoorthi Organization, I personally donated them several times and admire/appreciate their efforts.
Also, I would like to thank you for providing such a wonderful forum and that too non-profit. hats off to you ...
http://www.sphoorti.org/
SPHOORTI is a non-profit organization working for underprivileged children - orphaned, abandoned, destitute and other vulnerable groups. Our mission is to change lives of such children - by providing them with long-term care. This includes basic needs, education and healthcare, and skills necessary to transform them into responsible citizens.
We have three Childrens' Homes (all in the same locality) - one for boys, one for girls and another for children below 6 years of age. In addition, we have a separate facility for cooking and dining.
Please consider
https://www.rangde.org/ -- The idea of Rang De was sown in the year 2006 - the same year when Mr. Yunus was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work with Grameen Bank. The motivation for starting Rang De was the belief that the peer to peer lending model could be leveraged to lower the cost of microcredit and reach out to under-served communities.

Friends - this month somehow there were no NEW suggestions. So I just went ahead and donated $75 from the ad revenues to Red Cross towards victims of Hurricane Sandy. First $1M will be matched dollar for dollar. Check out if you are interested - http://www.redcross.org/sandy .
Thank you nonetheless since these ad revenues are because of YOU that we donate!
Friends,
As usual this month we will donate from site's ad revenues. As you may be aware - this site is run in a not for profit manner.
So if you have any suggestions for charities please let us know. The site revenues are very small as you can see from past donations. But they help us do a good deed. Then why not?
Best Regards,

Dear Users,
Using this site's ad revenues we donated $51 for the month of December to IDRF i.e. India Development and Relief Fund. With this we donated slightly more than last year's donations during this year at $1178. Thank you again!
Regards
Q
The site made yet another donation ($50) for the month of December to Nirankari Mission (www.nirankari.org). Also committed $51 for January.
The site made a donation of $51 in January to Nirankari.org and also made a $25 donation to newvrindaban.org
Friends, this month we received $25 back from a previous kiva loan we had lent. Using those $25 and adding $50 more we made 3 kiva loans again. This time we loaned to 3 groups of Manipuri women. North east has been a long neglected area of India and needs your help. If you like the idea of helping those women please go online at www.kiva.org and extend your loan!
For a complete list of our donations pl see the header of this thread.
Q2 Donations Updated
Friends,
For last few months GCQ and I tried to focus our donations on innovation education in India. Indian education is generally moribund and usually doesn't foster creativity and problem solving. Rather it emphasizes - not surprisingly - on memorization. Lack of innovation mindset leads to lack of problem solving. So we thought that it would be a good idea to donate towards charities or education institutes in India that could potentially be interested in innovation efforts. The earlier the better. In education there is a saying - "Catch them young". This way the education has maximum impact. That's where we think we would like to focus our donations going forward.
Unfortunately finding credible party that has interest in education for innovation is not that simple. After trying for over 2-3 months, unsuccessfully, we need to take a different route. Instead of chasing people to donate money - let us declare our next intended donation and its purpose. Let the organizations that are already working with these goals - come to us and we will evaluate and if found good fit donate accordingly.
I will create one thread per iteration of this exercise. You don't have to help monetarily - we use site ad revenues for donations. But if you know somebody who could use the donation towards the stated purpose please pass on the information.
Here is our very first iteration of this exercise.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Been a long time I haven't updated this thread.
In case you are looking to donate end of this year please consider Maharashtra Foundation. I know the people, they support some good causes. Here is a link where you can view their projects and donate.
