@wizoz2 congrats!!
Like many others, I have been a silent reader of this forum for a long time. I am happy to share that I have received the 'Case Approved' notification !
Thanks for all the discussion you have had on this forum. It's a great source of knowledge and one that is not easily found elsewhere. The discussions here are civil and everyone all around is ready to help. Keep up the good work !
Q - thanks for maintaining this forum ! Also its been a while you have posted poetry, do continue those when you get time ;)
For those who are still waiting, don't lose hope, things do seem to be moving along
Many congratulations! Here is a bit of poetry for you ....
Lyrics: Kaifi Azmi
Movie: Hanste Jakhm
Composer: Madan Mohan
Singer: Lata
Getting a GC is great. But the time lost, the opportunities lost, perhaps sometimes the costs are too much. But hey cheer up ... all is well that ends well.
Q- Just logged in to say, its deep poetry. I consider myself someone who have heard most of the songs new or old, but couldn't recognize when i read the poetry , immediately jumped on Youtube to listen then came the gottcha momemnt.."achha ye tha" :)
Many congratulations to :msbmsb" take a break let it sink in that you are greened.
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share that we received our approval email notifications today.
I have been a long time lurker and occasional poster in this forum. Its hard to say much when everything is said. I really want to extend my thanks and gratitude to everyone here. Q, Spec, and so many others continue to help everyone, for no selfish interest, just to help others. We are in this together.
Anyone I do meet who is more recent in this journey, the only thing I repeatedly say to them is to get their docs in order ( birth certificate etc especially ). When you need it, you dont have time for it, so get it done as soon as you can. We have been waiting for the boat to arrive for so long that you really don't want to miss it because of those pesky details.
Personal Story:
I have been in the US since Fall 2001 when I arrived for my MS. Till much much later, I didn't ever bother about green card, saying will apply for it when I move to my long term job, after marriage etc.. While others around who had more knowledge and foresight did what was necessary and have since long long back, settled and moved on with life, sponsored their parents etc. These things require decisiveness and we cannot let the what-ifs hold us back. Our PERM was only applied late in the 6th year of H-1B, We were literally counting days and packing up/selling off stuff to move back. Just 10 days before the 6 year expired did the PERM get approved. Subsequently the I-140 got approved in premium and we were able to apply for the H-1B extension exactly a day before our H-1B end date. Not to mention the countless Drivers license issues around that and other periods. The one right thing we did is have our Birth Certificates in order in late 2011. That helped us to file timely in 2012.
I really want thank everyone again. Hope our paths do cross in real life.
:) Congrats!!
Don't worry. You are not alone with indecisiveness. I came in Fall' 1999 for my MS. Similar delay as yours. PERM was applied after by H1B expired and at end of 2009 (had to convert to F1 Visa and work on CPT attending in-person classes in evenings/weekends). Replied back to my RFE and still don't have the card in my hand. You are a step ahead of me.
I was just watching Boman Irani say on Kapil Sharma show that as we age we can easily tear up. My heart became heavy reading your story. If for nothing else for the reason that I came to US in 2000 and got my GC in 2011 and thought that was too late because some of my other friends were approved in 2003.
On some level - though life is fair and in unforeseen ways it makes up for the unfair part. I am really glad for you Neel. I wish you the very best in life ahead.
Congratulations NeelVohra! Your personal story is indeed a story of perseverance!!
We share two things in common. :) We both came to US as students in the same year (even the same month I believe), and we both got our GCs approved in the same month and year twenty years later! I, myself continued studying for the first six years and only cared about GC when I landed my dream job. Back in 2001, George Bush was in his first year of presidency. Last month, he released his wonderful book on America's immigrants titled, "Out of Many, One: Portraits of America's Immigrants". The books contains 40+ stories and portraits painted by President Bush himself. Each and every immigrant story in the book is unique and inspiring.
Finally after 14 years, Green card journey has come to an end. My application status changed "New card is being produced"
Here is some of the information that could help others track.
PD: 3/18/2010
Category :EB2 India
RD: 03/05/2012
RFE: 04/14/2021
RFE Response:05/17/2021
06/09/2021: New card is being produced. I had no clue about immigration when I came here 14 years, couldn't understand any of the long emails people write regarding calculations 10 years back. This forum along with whereismygc has been extremely helpful in navigating through this maze and give readers some hope "Ek Din Apna number be Ayega".
Thanks and wish everyone best of luck!!
Dear All -- I received my green card yesterday. It's still surreal, but I am slowly starting to feel relieved.
I did have to seek help from my congresswoman. It took about three weeks since then to get an approval. Except, USCIS only approved my case, but not my wife's. So I won't celebrate quiet yet. We were also near the very end of a house sale/an out-of-state move from Cambridge MA when I received USCIS' approval notification; the timing meant that it was a bit too late to separately seek help on my wife's case from the MA congress rep. Now we've asked for assistance on my wife's case from our NY congress rep. I am just hoping that USCIS approves my wife's case without any hiccups (and soon).
Meanwhile, I have emailed my attorney a set of questions regarding the terms of employment tied to the green card. I'd love for your thoughts on these, please:
1. Can I go on an unpaid sabbatical for a few months? If not, how long would I need to wait to do so (in order to satisfy the intent for AOS)?
(An unpaid sabbatical for a few months would reduce my base annual wage below the offered base wage stated in AOS. I would be an employee of the firm and avail benefits but not a wage)
2. Am I still bound by the intent to hold full-time job at the firm or can I reduce my hours for few months at reduced wage below the AOS wage?
3. Does a promotion to a different title and wage affect my AOS intent if such a promotion were to happen in about 6 months?
4. Are there risks with any of these? I am concerned about the risks to the terms of my GC or when I file N-400 in five years.
5. Is there anything else I should be aware of? I do understand the GC residency requirements.
LoTG - many congratulations. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. So take it fwiw. I believe you can leave right now if you did not have such intention before hand. The whole system has become a joke. How do they expect people to stay employed in the same role without exploitation?
Good luck!
Thank you, krnashvom8.
USCIS' "normal processing time" range dictates when one can raise a service request. It has nothing to do with you, as a constituent, requesting services from your congress rep. Your congress rep's office will anyway temper your expectations by telling you that while they can request an update on your case from USCIS, they cannot guarantee a favorable decision or even a substantive update. They will have you complete a Privacy Waiver Act form. You can explain in it that your priority date has been current since xx day, and that you are requesting an update on your case. My congresswoman's immigration coordinator told me that all reps and senators use the same liaison to coordinate with USCIS. Your request gets sent to USCIS via this liaison. Then it's up to USICS. In my case, it appears as though they approved my GC, and then got back the next day to my congresswoman.
If you've waited for 8-10 months since filing your AOS, I'd consider reaching out to your congress rep/senator. Good luck with everything!
Thanks LOTG for the tip. Appreciate that
Don't remember if this is the right thread. but just got an update from USCIS:
PD: Feb 2010
RFE Date: Jan 2021
RFER Date: 12 Apr 2021
A new card being produced: 15 June 2021
NSC Officer: 0104
I came to this country in July 2001 so an almost 20-year journey comes to an end. and Thank you, everyone, here for all your thoughtful insights and suggestions. you guys are awesome.
Congrats mcmilers! Folks, Quick question! Are interviews even happening anymore for EB GC applicants? Asking because I see many straight up approvals and some chatter about the interviews getting scheduled at the same time. Is there a reason why we are seeing both of these things happen?
Congratulations @mcmilers!!! Enjoy the freedom!!
