just for understanding, why wouldn't they want concurrent filing?

i have another somewhat unrelated query..

my employer informed me that they won't pay the legal fees for the 485 filing for my wife..is that a normal practice or is it my employer playing cheap again? getting a little frustrated with their attitude...

Same with my employer. Paid my 485 fees, not my wife's.
FYI - It makes complete business sense for them.

My employer does not pay for any 485 filing at all - and they are usually quite generous. If your employer pays any part of 485 filing then consider yourself better situated than average.

About concurrent filing, I think the reason is mainly that with concurrent filing with so much backlog on the books, it may be possible for somebody who files 140+485 today to get GC before somebody with PD in late 2007 (for the present EB2IC case). I think USCIS/DOS are fine with some deviation in FIFO (matter of months that is happening right now) - but years of deviation that might result from concurrent filing would be too much.

I will answer second one first. 485 stage is not the concern of the employer. Employer is only responsible for first two stages i.e, Labour and I-140. I-485 is the responsibility of the employee. thanks Kanmani, imdeng, narendrarao,makmohan... never imagined my employer and 'nice' would go together in one sentence, :) , but i never thought i'd be current in 2012 too!

about concurrent filing, work load makes sense, but concurrent filing might help with getting a better estimate of the filers out there, humble two cents
