USCIS Client Visit

Here is my detailed story of USCIS client visit on Jan/09/2012:

Security person from my tower lobby called me and said a lady from USCIS wants to see me. I said I am coming down to receive her (actually never want to do that)

I went down from xx floor and introduce myself to her. She asked there is any conference room or meeting room where we can sit and talk. I said I need book/reserve conference room and as we haven't schedule any appointment there is none available at present. I said if you don't mind we can sit in cafeteria and talk. She said okey. As we enter to my office cafeteria I have ask her if she need any thing from cafeteria? she replied no.. no..

Then she asked me below questions:

1. Show me your identity.
Ans. Shown client badge with my name on it (no picture on badge).

2. To whom I report to?
Ans. H1B company and Client

3. How long I work here?
Ans. With client xx yrs and with H1B company xx yrs.

4. My position?
Ans. xx. (mentioned in LCA)

5. Annual Salary.
Ans. XXX p.a.

6. Salary paid weekly or bi-weekly or monthly?
Ans. Bi-weekly.

7. Do I do overtime? If yes, than do I get paid for the overtime?
Ans. Very rare . Yes I always get paid for the hours I work.

8. Please provide name, telephone number(s) and email addresses of the person I report to.
Ans. Provided name of H1B holding company direct report Supervisor and one client site supervisor. Said I don't have there phone numbers and email address by hard as they are stored on my office computer and office desk phone. But I can get these information few minutes. She said she will email me and I can provide her requested information in email.

She (USCIS staff) was very friendly and co-operative. She email me next morning with below request information:

1. For identification purposes, please submit a scanned copy of your drivers license or another form of photo identification?
2. Annual Salary? (please submit 3 copies of your most recent paystubs)
3. Please provide the telephone number(s) and email addresses for your client site supervisor and your H1B Supervisor?
4. Lastly, please provide a detailed description of your duties?
Ans. Copy pasted LCA and client/vender letters job roles and duties.

I have extended my H1B visa 6 months back.

Actually my company HR said USCIS client visit is very common after H1B extension. USCIS are checking whatever information provided by company at the time of extension are true or not.

Just this one letter from Sen.Grassley, changed the lives of even genuine and law abiding H1B Visa holders, it just follows Until we have our GCs. better H.R.3012 becomes law soon. So that some relief from this guys ignorant and untolerable letters and leakings of memo by his tails (Chelas!) from USCIS

I had a visit at my work place for a colleague, they came in and verified whether the H1B actually worked at the location mentioned. in addition the officer asked a few general questions to HR about the nature of work the company does, and the role of the individual. officer was there for about an hour.

but this was an internal office location, not at a client...

They don't alert in advance . How did he know that they are coming ? I had one last year and officer told me that they don't set up appointment for such visit. Motive behind visit is to find out fraud in H1b program. If he has copy of pay check and driving lic or any other photo id , he should be good. In my case first they took interview from HR ( asked them what I do and job type , title and salary ) then called me and asked me and I saw he as same information printed in one single paper. He said everything is good and I should be fine.

For some reason they set up an appointment with my friend (for 5 mins) and with his director (5 mins)....

I had a similar post H1B inquiry.
I work as Contractor at a big Fortune 500 company (same as your friend)
One of the USCIS representative came to my employer (different from above) asked for my pay slips, W2 forms and other HR documents from HR.
She also said she is planning for a site visit. this was around 23 Dec 2011. She also wanted to talk to me. My HR guys gave me a heads up. She called me next day and talked to me for 10-15 mins.
She asked about
1. my salary
2. who I report to
3. How long I was working at this client location?
4. what exactly I do
She asked me to send her an email with above details and gave her mail id.
I asked her why are you doing it, she said they will received a field inquiry for about 10% of cases that were approved for post approval inquiry. (My H1 was extended about 8 months ago)
I also heard one more guy from my company got the same inquiry.
She said she wanted to visit the site. but I said our site was closed during Christmas time and we are asked to work from home.
At the end She said all my details are OK and matched with her records and she will send the report back to that day.

In summary he does not need to worry about any thing if his H1B is filed with client place details as well as LCA is up to date.
secondly he shall look in to his LCA for description of work and salary etc. he may be asked about them.
also be aware of who he reports to. He shall state that he is reporting to his Consulting company. (ref. Employee- Employer relation thing)

While USCIS staff visited me did not take any pictures or even contacted HR or my client manager. They (USCIS staff) simply came to client place (mentioned in H1 extension) and asked for me. (http://www.qesehmk.org/forums/showth...S-Client-Visit)

Client visits need not be only for Employer - Client model. Out of my experience and the response from the officer who visited me, these are mostly random picks. I was the only one who got client visit in the history of the company. As per our HR, the number of applications filed in that quarter were more than what they would file in a year. So that might have been the cause and I was randomly picked. The only thing they asked was the salary. This was for I-140 and not H1 as the officer has shown me the form to sign on it.

I had a site visit by an officer one month after my last H1 was approved. I work at client location. They first visited my parent company, verified my information with them. Then visited my client location He asked me questions
-About my title
-When I joined my parent company (sponsor)
-my salary
-whom I report to
-what are my duties
-then walked me to my cubicle
I think he checked my photo id too and I showed my driving license

It's good to have a copy for H1 and latest few paystubs available either hard copy or soft copy. Have a name over your cubicle/office.

Also, when my wife had such a visit by an officer. The officer talked to her Manager too.

Below are the details of my USCIS work-site visit

1. He asked me to show my license.
2. My Date of Birth
3. Highest degree obtained
4. The year I obtained my master degree
5. Start month/Year at my employer.
6. My title at my employer.*
7. My work title at client place
8. The nature of work I do.*
9. My client supervisor name and number
10. My employer supervisor name
11. How my time sheets are processed
12. Who approves my time sheets at client place? and who assigns work at my client place.
13. My salary
14. Is this the only client place I work or I work for any other clients as well?
15. How many hours per week I work?

After the interview he asked me to submit the below documents.

1. My license copy
2. W2 of Last year
3. Last two pay statements
4. Copy of University degree
5. Copy of Education Evaluation Letter
6. Copy of Passport
************** 1. First Page -with photo

In point 8, you mention "8. Client Manager's Name and telephone Number." Is this your the manager you report to at the client location, and he is an employee of your employer? Or is he the employee of the Client?

Is it "Client manager" or "Manager at Client"? The latter would be employed to your employer and the former will be employed to the client.

client manager....the manager employed by and to the client, the manager i report to at client location and not my employer employed manager...

One more question? other than the "client manager", does your employer manager work in your client location or do they work off of your employer's office?

I am guessing that not in all cases, employer manager works in the same location as the h1b employee.
