Political discussion about immigration

I am usually an optimistic, sunny person - but after a long while - today I am feeling hopeless. The EO to discriminate against religions and countries of origin put me over the edge.

Is this really the same country I had in mind when I left everything I knew to come here? If this country is going to be just more of the same as any other xenophobic backwater - then what is the point?

I still think that we will get through it all and the country will turn back to get closer to its ideals. But the likelihood of that happening is decreasing with every passing day.

I am really sorry to see you hanging around imdeng. I know that you will know what I mean.

But as per Trump - ignore him. This country is exceptional with or without him ... just like India is exceptional with or without all kinds of shameful things that happen there.

We are blessed to be associated with two great places and it's just a matter of some more time for you to get greened. If you think about it you don't really need a piece of card to feel the connection with all things that are right about America.

You have probably too many things invested here to give up. Hang in .... forget Trump and his racist supporters (including some desi folks).

imdeng the immigration scene has gone out of whack so badly .. that it is unbelievable how stupid this country has become. No wonder people are not visiting this or any other site as much as they used to.

Post 2008 ... we saw virtually all ROW demand dry up. That would've been an excellent opportunity to clear EB23-IC backlog.

However there is such a strong anti-India anti-H1B environment here that they rather approved ROW and Philipines from EB3 / NVC and even FB categories than at least let the EB2I have any chance.

It is pure sadistic attitude nothing else. And yet instead of seeing through this -- our Indian folks .. the moment they get GC start singing anti-H1B tune. It is pathetic.

Guess what if trump wants he can still save this country for whites. And it is not just white men, white women also almost voted 50% for GOP, so stop with this white man concept. He can say goodbye to birthright citizenship (once he gets his judges in the court. The 14th amendment never gave birthright citizenship to kids who are not born to US citizens, it clearly says you need to be in jurisdiction and only citizens are in full jurisdiction as everyone else owes at least partial allegiance to another country, the reason why kids of diplomats dont get US citizenship, dems have wanted the state dept to stupidly issue birth certificates to everyone since 1970). So that alone will take white births to 67% from 51% now (8% of kids born are to illegals and 8% to legal residents who are not citizens/lpr's). He can pause immigration in total and that will help.

If you believe white minority is the right path, go try living in latin america, i am sure you will love it.

Sorry Q, i respect you but disagree here. The way India is going, hindus will be minority soon and I am sure you know that India will be a piece of shit when that happens and the same will happen in USA when Whites become a minority.

Btw: I am a desi who used to live in the US, and moved to chennai 4 years back.

Imdeng, the US is a sovereign country and anyone in the world does not have an unfettered right to enter this country.

And to add, 90% of these refugees are a result of the reckless interventionist policies of neocons/dems which trump clearly opposes.

If you saying US is great because of Whites, then you have a problem. America is great because of immigrants who contribute more than they take, it doesn't matter if they are legal or not. While immigration needs to be regulated and reformed it doesn't mean you harass them putting their life in limbo.

Is it just a coincidence that all developed nations (except Japan/S Korea) happen to be white majority barring a few exceptions like the oil dependent middle eastern countries which are developed just on account of oil exports

A cursory view of the chart of chemical elements and the countries where they were discovered will highlight a lot. Sure America does great becos of the capitalist system, but they were great even before 1965 when they did not have mass non-european immigration.

Folks - Lets not have this forum become a back and forth on political dialogue. There are enough places for people to do that. It was stupid of me to vent in the main forum and I am deleting my posts on the matter. I am also deleting my quoted posts in the replies. If you wish to have a political dialogue - please use a separate thread.

Guys take it easy. We all should be able to handle discussion that involves significant differences. You don't have to delete your posts unless they are really mean spirited / or use foul language.

Murali - India is seen as piece of shit by white people because we haven't treated our people quite well. I have been travelling the world since 90s. Not many Indians used to be abroad those days. One question I consistently faced from my white colleagues was "Do you really have 'untouchables' in India"? I never really understood what that meant. But now I understand that the success of the West lies in democracy where all people are considered equal and carry some fundamental rights. And so the thought of "untouchables" is quite disgusting to them - frankly not just in terms of the perpetrators but even the oppressed (as in how can somebody allow him/herself to be treated like that).

If you peak into the history and present of India ... it was not the muslims but "US" who have inflicted injustice to the majority of Indians / Hindus. So it is hard to understand the logic behind hindus becoming minority and India becoming shit country.

I used to believe in Hindu nationalism and even went to Ayodhya and all that. But 25+ years later and spending 15+ years in the US has made me realize that our true enemies are lawlessness, lack of knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship. Muslims are children of India just as much you and I are. They are no more or less patriotic than anybody else.

India should not look for trouble where there exists none.

India's long term risk is with countries that want to gobble up more and more resources. Muslims if anything constitute one of our strengths.
