Can GC holders collect Unemployment benefits?

Hi all:
My wife and I got our GC back in August 2014 (EB2 India). My wife received the pink slip today and has a 4 month severance package. She is going to start looking for new FTEs, but if nothing pans out during the 4 month, I was wondering can she file for unemployment Insurance/benefits while on GC? Would this (applying for unemployment benefits) have any impact on citizenship? As always your help is hugely appreciated.

My friend on GC is collecting unemployment benefits as of now.. she too is in same situation.. But I dont know how it will impact citizenship process.
