Interfiling - Is new 485 filing required?

I am going through interfiling and my lawyer thinks I need to file I-485 again to get approval of my case. Here is my story.


EB3 - I140 & I485 filed. Priority date: 5/1/2006
In 2011, my I485 case status changed and was sent to local office. (no other information even now).


EB2 - I140 approved date: 4/14/2014. My lawyer said at this time that my original priority date of 5/1/2006 was retained.
Dates became current based on EB3 in 7/2014. My lawyer sent interfile letter with both I140 (old and new). I opened infopass appointment and visited local office. Local office did not reveal anything. Nor did the interfile letter do anything.

Now my lawyer thinks that I should file a new I485 for EB2. He thinks my old priority date will still be retained. His take is that filing new I485 will force USCIS to at least locate file and view it and hopefully approve it since dates are current.

Please help me figure out if this new I485 filing is required and will it complicate situation or improve my case? Thank you.
