H1 Extension approved - Gap in I-94 dates

The "valid from" date on I-94 attached to my H1 extension approval notice that I just received is 11/24/2014 while my previous I-94 was valid until 9/9/2014. So, there is a gap of ~1.5 months. Does anyone here know why USCIS might have done that and how to get it fixed? Also, how serious is this?
