Expiring Passport

All, this is an off topic question, I will delete it later.

My daughter is US citizen and traveling to India with her US passport valid for around 2 months. Will this be of any issue while going to India or coming back to US.

I dont have time to renew the passport here in US, if required I would get her passport renewed when we are in India.

Please advice on how I can proceed.

Passport renewal takes a week in US but you'll have to endorse her PIO card with the new passport.

In India, they will check her PIO card, in US they will check her US passport. I guess you should be fine. Others can chime in.

I think (not 100% sure) US and India both consider validity of each others' passports 6 months beyond the expiry date written on passports. You might want to investigate that. Good luck.

Is using Expedited Renewal not an option? http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/renew.html

I personally wouldn't want to travel with a passport of less than 6 month validity.

Thank you all. We did not have the time for doing even expedited renewal. My daughter did travel yesterday and reached safe without any issues.
