Am sure it is all good. Be optimistic. Whatever happens, it happens for a reason.

I thought so about J1 issue. Well... atleast you can be more flexible now in terms of relocation to under served area.


My PD is OCT 18, 2007

If you are in J1 you cannot get your GC unless you go through 3 year Waiver requirement or 2 year home return rule..so for now no GC for my wife....lets see what is in store for us...GC for me seems useful..but no idea what has future planned for us...:-)

Congrats! Now that u have your GC, can't you apply family based GC for her? The wait times now are only a few years and not as bad as a decade ago. If not, atleast you now have the flexibility to move. Good luck for your life!

I absolutely agree with this suggestion. Gregspirited the family category is moving well too and your spouse should have her gc in a couple of years if applied under the family category.Choose CP when it comes to that crucial stage and it could maybe even shave off a few more months/years .

BC was registered in 2008 for spouse & self. Got Lucky with that.
Been with employer since 6 years.
No RFEs, 221gs no other immigration issues.
Employer is Fortune 500 IT company.
Currently Not working in PERM location. Been consulting across states. Got Lucky with that too.
LCA was filed whenever location changed, no H1B amendments filed. Got Lucky with that too.

I just got greened and didn't expect until late next month...Everything seems surreal to me..After 6 yrs with same company...12 years in US....

I have been lurking around this forum for close to 2 yrs now and you guys have been great (you guys are like band of brothers). Always logged to this forum whenever I felt frustrated because of immigration issues. The frustration was due to not being able to change roles from engineering to marketing or product management (post MBA - finished with $30,000 out of pocket expenses) and staying away from my wife for 1.5 years. I was able to file my 485 last week. I have couple of questions
1. I took my medical last month , I moved to a new apartment during the first of this month and filed 485 on 14th Feb with my new address. So my medical report has the old address and 485 has old address. Will this be an issue? What is the worst case, am I expecting an RFE?
2. Also when is the A Number allocated? In my medical form the A number is empty. My understanding is that the A Number is allocated after filing 485. I found the A number in my 485 receipt. Is this correct?

You need to file AR-11 , change of address form immediately.( within 10 days of move). As long as you file AR-11, you are ok.

1. Just make sure to have filed AR-11 to document the address change. Once you do it online, you can print it out too for your records.
2. A number is ok to be left blank on the medicals. A number maybe allocated on filing I-485 for secondaries, while for primary, in most cases, it is the A number as already allocated during the I-140 phase.

Thanks for your empathy...J1 is a very tough visa. She had to choose J1 for her medical residency since I didn't even have EAD at that time "God proposes USCIS disposes" ;-)....Once you are in J1 getting GC is a long process. She is eligible to apply only after the waiver requirements, which typically takes 2-3 years after her residency. So family category or having her own EB2 category is moot for now....:-)

Its like we can't fully enjoy the benefits of GC..although i should not complain since it helps me move closer to her and get a job that I want...

Just an update:

3 of my friends became current along with me in November. We all went to the same Civil Surgeon and so, I'd think that the civil surgeon marked "age not appropriate" against Influenza vaccine for all of us. We all have the same priority dates. 2 of us have RD Nov 1; one has RD Nov 4 and the other has RD Nov 8.

The person with RD Nov 8 just got greened (got emails earlier today). My friend with RD Nov 1 got RFEs for both himself and his wife couple of days back (don't know the reason yet). I (RD Nov 1) and my other friend with RD Nov 4 are still waiting for some kind of activity.

The 4 of us have pretty much identical profiles. Came to US in 2002 to do Masters (same major, same university). Started working as contractor at the same company in 2005. Got hired as Full-Time regulars at the same company in 2007. And, the lawyers sent the same list of documents (http://goo.gl/rwgXt) for all of us.

Lets see how this plays out.

I tried calling customer service ( numer listed on our receipts) couple of days ago as I did not get my EAD yet, I am( in fact customer service also) do not have a clue if it was L2 officer. I Just want to make sure that they got my email ID correct and also want to talk to them about my 485 case also

Yes this is normal with TSC, my sister got AP approval on 2/18 and EAD approval on 2/22, mostly it will be a combo card

To add fuel to the early walk-in fingerprinting fire, my wife and I walked into the Phoenix ASC today. Her appointment was for Mar 1st in PHX and mine was for Mar 8th in NYC. We had no issues. Service with a smile. In and out in about 45 minutes.

The reason we chose to walk in early is that my wife is ready to pop our daughter out and I didn't want to be driving her straight from the ASC to the hospital (or vice versa) next week.

Its not a requirement(or may be it is who knows), but TSC seemed to have been following it. but i have friends from TSC who got EADs before biometrics appointment.
Strangely one a dec filder has FP apptmt at the end of feb whic is a little off for TSC, they were pretty efficient about Biometrics.

I dont think TSC has been entirely effective with respect to FP dates. I am a dec filer but was scheduled for an FP on Jan 31 ( 1 1/2 month later after my packet reached them)

It is entirely normal for TSC to approve the AP before EAD .I received the email notifications for my spouse's AP approval before the EAD. I never received my email approvals but actually got both cards in the mail . The notification system is actually kind of broken in a way. TSC is also waiting for FP before approving EAD in most cases. By the way according to my lawyer the FBI fingerprinting check will happen on the same day you do the FP .The prints are sent digitally to FBI and they do the background check on the same day. Even the name check in most cases takes 3-4 weeks untill and unless there is a specific alert on the name. The entire wait is actually for an L2 officer to take a look at the file after all the checks are done and approve the case .

Ironically, I need to wait another week to see my little girl too. :). Anyway, best of luck. I wish you are able to go back and see her soon. My advice, take advantage of this week and do all those things you can't do once your daughter is back. I'm thinking romantic dinners, horror movies, drunken parties, filing your tax returns, etc.

dont worry about it...their notifications are not really reliable. My spouse's AP was approved 3 days before the EAD was.

Yes they had the FP done on 2/11 but that wont stop you from getting EAD/AP although lot of TSC filers are getting it after FP.

Mine is also TSC, I got my EAD approved last week. My FP is scheduled for 3/1, on my EAD card there is no FP.

Mine is also TSC, I got my EAD approved last week. My FP is scheduled for 3/1, on my EAD card there is no FP.

Now a days no one is getting EAD and AP separately so you getting AP approved is as good as getting EAD approved... I wish you good luck and a happy journey soon to reunite with ur kiddoo...

Yes Teddy...it was an amazing moment to see that approval. However...the feeling kinda fizzles out after a few and u get back to reality. Nothing really changes right away..same job, same stuff...but it's kinda good to know that u finally have a "resident" status in the US of A.....and can claim unemployment if u didn't have a job in the future....LOL!!!

This whole process makes it so draconian....it should have been way simpler. Been toiling here for 11 years now...so I appreciate the plight of all the fellows who have endured and still enduring the numbers and the waiting game...

Actually most go over my head..
Hope GC part of your life is complete ASAP..
Here is some background information on my case
1. No masters (India or US).
2. Came here on L1, and 3 years went by
3. H1 for 6 years, last 5 years on the same company
4. No flu vaccine in the medical..
5. My BC was registered last year in preparation for 485 filing.
6. Got affidavits for both my wife and me from mom/dad
7. Wife had a original BC
8. No issues in the past in visa stampings (4 stamps in total)
9. Company is fortune 1000, well..
10. I was told my company is in good standings with immigration..dont know to what to make of this..but that’s what the lawyers tell me..

Well..I seem to have fudgin’ done it..

I have been very indifferent about the whole GC thing in general, pretending that it didn't matter, doesn't exist, whatever...but reality is that this is something that all us legal hardworking folks, who have studied, worked hard, paid our dues, paying taxes should not have to endure the torture of the waiting game. Now that I see my GC approved, and the feeling that comes with it....I realize that it actually does matter a lot, and all those folks who have contributed and aided through the forum, lobbying etc have my highest regard.

I hope HR3012 passes..and i hope the EB3 folks get their day in the sun as well. I sincerely hope that the current folks, who just started the process or contemplating about starting it, have it much easier.

11 Years is too long....!! But hey....this is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA....not the "United States of Rocky Baba, where I am the emperor and the King.."

Hello Friends, I received a combo card today (02/25) EAD/AP (fingerprint on it).

USCIS text msg/email received on 02/17 that AP was approved and mailed.
USCIS text msg/email received on 02/23 that EAD was approved and mailed.

Just curious and wanted to know if there will be any I-797 approval notice for AP or any such document showing approval of AP.
Is the combo card EAD/AP the only proof I will have for AP?

Can we expect any Nov 2011 filer approvals from NSC next week? Is the 9% monthly quota equally divided b/w the two SCs?
I am thinking that NSC is just touching about 60% filers from each month and moving on to next month just to maintain the average of 4 months. They leave the remaining 40% cases languishing. This is my observation from trackitt with reference to Aug. Sept, Oct. and now Nov. filers. Do you think this assumption is correct? I find it hard to believe that every month, 40% or so cases are stuck in background checks and cannot be touched by IOs. Any opinions??

I saw lot of people in trackitt with your situation and they got EAD after 2-3 weeks, wait for 2-3 weeks and then try to call uscis ( does not harm if you call earlier also but they will give you standard response)


My status shows AP approval notice sent .. however nothing on EAD status; it's still initial review.

Can we expect any Nov 2011 filer approvals from NSC next week? Is the 9% monthly quota equally divided b/w the two SCs?
I am thinking that NSC is just touching about 60% filers from each month and moving on to next month just to maintain the average of 4 months. They leave the remaining 40% cases languishing. This is my observation from trackitt with reference to Aug. Sept, Oct. and now Nov. filers. Do you think this assumption is correct? I find it hard to believe that every month, 40% or so cases are stuck in background checks and cannot be touched by IOs. Any opinions??

I understand how you feel. PD just determines eligibility so everyone is on a equal footing on this regards. RD can increase the probability of your case being further forward in the queue or an officer to look at it. I think what is really happening for the cases lagging behind is that some kind of verification process is delayed or simply the case is assigned to a slower officer. Some of the Oc filers who did not get an RFE are also still waiting. I believe both service centers should be accessing numbers from a common pool. Looking at Trackitt the number of Nov filers approved this far is well below 50%. A lot of case have received RFE's so still a long time to go to have everyone consistently approved.
For Nov filers primary filers only.
66 out of 420 cases received rfe's.
164 cases are now approved
17 rfe case are approved

I saw lot of people in trackitt with your situation and they got EAD after 2-3 weeks, wait for 2-3 weeks and then try to call uscis ( does not harm if you call earlier also but they will give you standard response)

I had that same status on 2/24. On 2/26 my EAD status said card production ordered. So, you will see it soon.


My status shows AP approval notice sent .. however nothing on EAD status; it's still initial review.
Did anyone has similar situation ? Is it normal and when should I expect EAD then ?

I had same status on 02/17 (AP approved) and on 02/23 (EAD was approved). It is normal with TSC I think. You should see status change in I765 EAD application in a day or two.


I had that same status on 2/24. On 2/26 my EAD status said card production ordered. So, you will see it soon.

I have filed my I485 (AOS) case on Dec 1st, 2011 the case is still pending with USCIS. Along with AOS, we have filed for EAD and Advance Parole, which got approved and I have physical EAD/AP on my hand. And I have valid H1B petition (No H1B Stamp, current stamp expired on).

I have situation back at, I need to travel to India immediately this week end I am not willing to go for stamping of H1B. I would like to start using my EAD/AP.


Now, I have following questions:

1. Can I travel to INDIA and come back in 2 weeks without any port of entry issues by using my EAD/AP card?
3. If yes, what all the documentation that need to carry with me, which are required at POE on my return?
3. What if my I-485 gets approved while I am in India? On what status I should try to enter into USA on my return?
4. In the #3 case, do I need to visit US embassy in INDIA to get the immigration stamping?
5. If yes, what is the procedure?
6. Are there any other complexities involved this scenario, which I can’t think of?

You can come back on AP whether your GC get approved or is still pending.
If it gets approved, at POE just tell the officer, and he/she should be able to see that information on his/her end and verify.

Ideally there shouldn't be a problem becoz that's what AP is for.

I went to India when my I-485 is pending and AP is approved.
When I am coming back, I have got the RFE and they checked only my EAD / AP Combo card and nothing else.
One of my colleague got approved, while in India and still used AP to come back. But, he told them (POE) that his GC was approved and they stamped it like wise.

You maybe right maybe Monday is their comp off day after the working weekend beacuse we saw good number of weekend approvals from TSC over the weekend.

If the applicant is traveling using the Advance Parole (AP), then s/he just needs that document, the passport, and a copy of the I-485 receipt notice. If the applicant has obtained an AP but prefers to use his/her H1B or L-1 visa then the primary applicant would travel showing that valid visa, along with the original H1B or L-1 petition approval notice. It is helpful for the principal applicant to have an employment letter verifying s/he is still needed by the employer. Dependents traveling on H-4 or L-2 visas need to show the dependent visa, i.e. the H-4 visa stamp or the L-2 visa stamp, along with the marriage certificate or birth certificate showing status as a dependent of the principal nonimmigrant. One should also carry the I-485 receipt notice, though the CBP Port of Entry Inspectors do not usually ask to see it. One who is maintaining H1B or H-4, L-1 or L-2 status has the choice of either using that type of visa to travel or using the AP. Just because the applicant obtained an AP does not mean that s/he is required to use it. If the applicant has an AP, it is a good idea to carry it on the trip as a backup, even if s/he does not plan to use it. I have filed my I485 (AOS) case on Dec 1st, 2011 the case is still pending with USCIS. Along with AOS, we have filed for EAD and Advance Parole, which got approved and I have physical EAD/AP on my hand. And I have valid H1B petition (No H1B Stamp, current stamp expired on).

I have situation back at, I need to travel to India immediately this week end I am not willing to go for stamping of H1B. I would like to start using my EAD/AP.


Now, I have following questions:

1. Can I travel to INDIA and come back in 2 weeks without any port of entry issues by using my EAD/AP card?
3. If yes, what all the documentation that need to carry with me, which are required at POE on my return?
3. What if my I-485 gets approved while I am in India? On what status I should try to enter into USA on my return?
4. In the #3 case, do I need to visit US embassy in INDIA to get the immigration stamping?
5. If yes, what is the procedure?
6. Are there any other complexities involved this scenario, which I can’t think of?

I understand how you feel. PD just determines eligibility so everyone is on a equal footing on this regards. RD can increase the probability of your case being further forward in the queue or an officer to look at it. I think what is really happening for the cases lagging behind is that some kind of verification process is delayed or simply the case is assigned to a slower officer. Some of the Oc filers who did not get an RFE are also still waiting. I believe both service centers should be accessing numbers from a common pool. Looking at Trackitt the number of Nov filers approved this far is well below 50%. A lot of case have received RFE's so still a long time to go to have everyone consistently approved.
For Nov filers primary filers only.
66 out of 420 cases received rfe's.
164 cases are now approved
17 rfe case are approved

I went to India when my I-485 is pending and AP is approved.
When I am coming back, I have got the RFE and they checked only my EAD / AP Combo card and nothing else.
One of my colleague got approved, while in India and still used AP to come back. But, he told them (POE) that his GC was approved and they stamped it like wise.

Thanks, realistically it will take upto 2 months to clean out all Nov filers including those with RFE's. There is still a very long way to go as less than 50% cases are approved thus far.

FInally our wait is over. Got CPO email now for both at 11:45. As you know we got RFE ( Self - BC+Vaccine and Dep - Vaccine). Our RFE was accepted on Feb 21 and i got my approval today.
Sweet NSC.This wait killed me and now its a big relif. I am very happy to share this news to one of the best forum ever i have been a member. T and Loe you should see your appvoal in a week.

I believe, any body who sent their RFE response will get approved with in 7 - 10 business days on average. It might take more time for those filers, who got their I-485 apps packets and the attorney had to resend them as part of the RFE response, since the officers might have to repeat the processing once again.

Teddy made this prediction in December itself that processing centres will do the processing irrespective of PD due to the rapid movement.Also early FP will be an additional curveball....luck plays a major role too.If the applicant gets an easy going officer even with late registered BC the file could approved if it is in pre-adjudicated queue.All it takes to get into the Pre-adjudicated queue is passing through Fingerprinting/Name check.

I will not be surprised to see more Jan filers get approved in early March.

"Don't fear to walk away from the straight path to go into the right direction."

The path you originally walk on maybe straight, paved, with comfortable pit stops and rest areas. But it may not be the right direction. For the right direction, one should deviate from this straight path, go off road, feel the adventure, take the risks, and he shall find that the correct milestones were only on this one, the road less traveled, the path less beaten!

What is your service center?

TSC (Texas Receipt numbers start with SRC****** ) or NSC (Nebraska - LIN****). NSC is quick in updating online systems but late in issuing FP notices. TSC is vice versa and that is why I have FP notice but no online status thingy.

Funny thing is I still don't have my receipts , I know my # s from my lawyer who got it and the first ever status that I saw was "post office returned the mails saying undeliverable and it could have serious effects on processing of your case". So in reality I ended up getting more "anxiety attacks" :). I was little relieved when I got my FP notice yesterday after I put bigger name labels on my mailbox.

I don't know. My wife's and daughter's apps were submitted same day and they have same RDs as mine but FP appointment for them is on 3/14 (although in their case I am planning to do early walk-in when I go there on 3/7)

It seems Mr. Heisenberg at USCIS is processing our apps :-). No certainty!

None of the Tsc- Feb filer's case can be found in 'My Case Status'. Somebody from the other forum called the customer service and got an answer to this. Uscis has Feb filers' data entered into their system, but not updated in the server for public view.

I called w.r.to our case( missing receipt notice), I was turned down for not completing 30 days eligibility from filing date to call for updates.

Sometimes I wonder if USCIS/DOS/CO/Consulate employees have a secret blog of their own and every once in a while when it gets quiet out here they do something random/out of whack and then have a blast over it by quoting all the flutter their action generated here, on trackitt and other forums. Heard its getting embarassing for some at ours (Jersey) as well. One of my colleagues witnessed someone having not such a good time at the hands of the supervisor ..... it was quite audible with no attempt to spare the embarassment to the "smart one". Apparently so many people showed up there with "compelling reasons" to "check if it was possible to prepopone" that even the halfwits figured that there was a trend there and have started dishing it out aplenty. Whatever little desire I had towards attempting the same vanished after hearing the details.....somethings are just not worth it.

Folks, how long does it take from "Decision" to "Card/Production" to "Picked by USPS" for I-485. My status changed today morning to DECISION "On February 27, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status."

Average it takes 7 days to get card. Once you see card ordered , call L2 next day and you will get a tracking no for your shipment. If you are in big building and fear that you may lose mail, you can plan day off.

Roller coaster.... this is going to add to the concern of people patiently waiting since Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov... on one hand, it's nice to see people getting approved...who knows what they've been through..on the other hand, it's hard to watch a black box with no idea what's going on inside....

I totally agree essenel, well put . The black box part is extremely frustating. I think it is time to get proactive and start talking to the centre using any and every means possible ..mutliple calls/SR/Infopass/Senator route !!!

Our time has come!!!! Our status (wife and me) changed to "Approved" just now on the decision. This journey has been long and tiring. I really hope everyone gets relief especially Leo and Teddy who have been the torchbearers for this forum.

Friends- As you know i got CPO email/SMS yesterday and evening i got Decision email/sms and again mid-night it went to CPO email/sms. I called L2 today to get USPS tracking number and she said the card is not been sent to print yet

questions:- Do we get any SMS/EMail once Card is sent to print or Any SMS/EMAIL after its picked by USPS. Please let me know should i call L2 again or what is the process?

could not agree more on the blackbox statement. While I was thinking about GC ( may be easier to identify moments when not thinking about it ) I got reminded of one quote from someone on this forum a couple of months ago. It said succintly

"aayah tho aayah baaki sab maayah".

The above phrase aptly surmises this madness.

So many theories,analogies,comparisons,observations but USCIS outmaneuver's us every time with their processes once we are inclined to accept a theory.

May be it is easier to spot the highest prized box on deal or no-deal in the initial jumbling rather than predicting any order in this process.

Hello,

I'm new a member on this blog. My wife and I applied for I-1485, I-765 and I-131 and received receipts and FP notices too, but the receipts are not recognized in the automated status check system on USCIS, also called national customer support still the same. Is anyone else facing the same issue? Please suggest how long does it usually take for the automated status check to pick up the receipts?

You will get some more texts/emails in a day or two mentioning that it is being mailed thru USPS and that USPS has picked up. You may call L2 at that point. But I wud suggest to just relax as once you get the USPS pick up text/email the card will be in your mailbox in 2 or 3 days max. The last text/email is when USPS confirms delivery to USCIS.

USCIS needs to be commended for streamlining the whole process. They have become super proactive with all the case tracking.

If you read the posts in the last few pages you will find the details. In summary most of the Feb filers are not able to search their receipt # in USCIS website. We think there is a delay in enabling the receipt #. We also found that this delay is not affecting the FP or EAD.

It is normal to take a few weeks for receipts to become active for some of the recent filers. I heard from my attorney that there is a glitch somewhere in the USCIS systems and they have acknowledged the same. My own receipts are still not active yet - been almost 3 weeks since I got them.

My husband got his I 485 approval mail yesterday followed by card production ordered email. With 2 hrs of the card production ordered email we got another email saying they had sent an email on 29th feb requesting for additional information(RFE) i have been also tracking the status on the USCIS case status...which went from decision to card production and then to RFE...I have never heard of anything like this...is this normal?? can the gurus throw some light on this....I am his dependent and was waiting for my I 485 approval....kept checking my husband's inbox just to get this disappointing mail :-(((

That seems to be the general trend and I am one of the Feb filers with an inactive receipt number. So far atleast I have seen only one person on this forum who has a Feb receipt and is able to check the status using the receipt number and even in his case the status tracker started working only recently. There might be a significant number of Jan filers too with the same situation; I personally know a colleague who filed in Jan but cannot check his status.

Best you can do at this point is call them up and ask them whats going on citing the 2 emails in sequence and let them do most of the talking. The only other option is to wait for the snail mail to arrive and find out then what has happened. With the former, there would atleast be a head start to speak to yoru attorney and plan out the future course. Most cases have mninor RFE's which can easily be responded to and then the adjudication is completed within a couple of weeks. Wish you all the best and hope that this gets resolved for you guys.

its normal. eventually in 2-3 days you will get card mailed, usps picked up etc. after usps picked up status, only then next day, the IO can provide you tracking number.

A valid reason to panic....but by now I believe you have settled a bit, I am pretty sure this RFE is petty and should be resovled within few days. Good luck.

The agent said he could not see my FBI and name check records even though it has been a month. I got worried and called the FBI number that was shared in this thread sometime ago and they informed me the check went okay and were sent out on the same day to the processing centre.

Dunno what the issue is....Even if the name check was holding up things , the agent should have been able to view the FBI fingerprinting stuff. Weird.

The guy I spoke to was not exactly friendly and I am not sure if he is the guy always responsible for my file. I told him that all I needed was if the FBI check and name check went through okay. He looked it up in the system and said he cannot see both of them . Whereas when I spoke with FBI they said the fingerprinting stuff was sent on same day ,was legible and okay.

I am not sure if the lower level officer would hold off putting in the FBI check untill the name check arrives, not sure too many variables.

Either way it lets me know not to expect much and just wait patiently untill April/May. The guy specifically told me he cannot open an service request since it is TSC untill May.
