Even though there have been unfounded fears and hearsays about the problems arising by leaving sponsoring employer, almost of all of them are hearsays and few cases where they have gone to the court are the ones where the employee never worked a single day after GC ( not even before GC).

But I do know people who have left 1 month later and just got citizenship.

My personal opinion (and pitch in if you disagree) is NOT doing any crime, paying taxes and maintaining residence are the requirements to maintain GC and obtain citizenship,
The burden is on the applicant to prove that he/she is eligible for GC but for GC revocation the Govt has to prove that they have good evidence that there is fraud.

My point is there are several things we need to do after GC and obsessing about duration of stay with sponsoring employer is the last one.

Indiani - I missed this thread somehow. Looks like nobody answered it yet. So here is my take on this.

If you've already invoked AC21 prior to GC approval then all of this is a moot point.

If you haven't and employer fires you post approval then you are free and there is nothing to worry.

If the employer doesn't fire you and you leave employer post GC then also it is ok to leave as long as your intention was to stick with the employer while GC was being approved/processed. Even 1 day after something happens that makes you change your mind - that's ok.

Intent here is so hard to prove ... and that's why 6 months is a guideline --- not a rule.

However if there are things that prove that your intention was not to stick with the employer thats a big no no.

e.g. if you were looking for a job prior to GC approval and then you accept offer immediately after GC approval, that could be held against you. The funny thing is - you can look for a job and invoke AC21 prior to GC approval. That's why law is an ass. But unfortunately we have to deal with this ass. So be a little bit careful but don't try to sacrifice your entire career or happiness in life for this stupid card. That would be my usual 2 cents!

Indiani

I don't have any references for my understanding on this topic, I always believed in 180 rule.. that's why my first post in forum was asking the same thing..

I did post my understanding at that time, now I had to edit that today cuz its all so much speculation and what I saw and liked online...

I do now believe that there is no such rule as 180...but Q must excuse me for 1 time for making another speculation..this is all what I think..

I do see online that ppl did change after a day.. but I dont have personal references..

In summary I agree 99% of what Q said.. with one thing I may say is different is .. if u r looking for job lately and got an offer just b4 gc, u still can move.. this is just my understanding and may change with time...

roger - yes lots of people have done it. Personally I do not know an example where people lost their GC or were denied citizenship because they switched jobs right after GC. So perhaps there is too much unfounded fear.

I have heard extreme stories where people went back to India and still received their GCs!!
