To all the new I-485 filers- try to do an early FP. I know some locations don't allow, but try your best. People who live in bigger metropolitan areas, with more than one USCIS office, if your location don't allow an early walk in, try another one nearby. The other location may or may not allow, but don't hesitate to try your luck. if an adjudicating officer picks up your file and all required documentation is complete, visa may be requested immediately. The chances are less, but do whatever is possible to speed up the process. Good luck to everyone.

Matt is right! It made a difference to me back in 2012. Had I waited till my appointment date, I would have ended up in the same boat as many of you guys. Best of luck!
Lets see who will be the first to share the good news.

This question may be dumb but you have to wait for FP appointment, isn't? Otherwise how would I know which location to go?

You have to get the appt letter but the letter specifies a date and location. Once you get that letter, you can try to get in earlier.

VKKpnm,
You will receive the FP notification which specifies your appointment date and place. Once you receive that notification, try to go in early if possible, instead of waiting for the appointment date. Usually the appointment date will be atleast 2 weeks from the time the notification was issued.
You will have to carry the FP notification to the center. So, unless you have the notification in hand, you cannot walk-in.

Thanks everyone for quick response. Any idea how much time does it takes for FP request. My application is filed today at TSC.

It depends on the slot availability of the center nearby, where you live . We received in 2 weeks, appointment day was on a later date.
Regarding walk-in FP before your appointment date, not all the centers do it, they may look into reasons for early FP, may reject your request. Talk with your local friends who have done FP at that center.

Thanks. Just another quick question. Did you guys file I485 at peek time, I meant when there were expecting a number of application to be filed like at present scenario. Just trying to estimate a possible delay time because of loads of application this month?

It was peak time when I applied (Jan 2012) and it took almost a month to get the FP notifications. The current scenario may not be a peak as only those who missed the boat last time will be applying now. My guess, you should be receiving FP notices sooner.

Anyone who is current in the month of August'13 had luck with walk-in at ASC Alexandria, VA. I was sent back twice as a result of too many scheduled people in the waiting room.
Thanks

Gurus, I have a quick question. I am sept first time filer. I Received FP notice yesterday just for 485, not for 765 from NSC. Is this normal. Anyone were in the same boat. Should I expect or wait for 765 FP notice, or should I try for early walk-in? Did anyone receive 765 FP notice after receiving 485 FP notice, if so after how many days did you get it.

Hi Gurus,
I am a first time filer(PD 20Feb2009 EB2-I) and received my biometrics appointment yesterday for 2nd week of Oct 2014 at ASC Philadelphia.
Its 2 1/2hrs drive from my place to ASC, philadelphia. Do you think an early walkin for FP speed up the process? or it doesn't make any difference if i go during 2nd week Oct?
Please provide your suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
