Ok guys get a load of this. I heard this story this evening from a colleague of my friend and FYI I barely know him.
This guy has a friend (EB2I PD Oct 2008) who is for the past few months dating a woman that works for DHS. She doesn't have access to look into any immigration files but she knows some guy high up that can. She apparently got that guy to look into her boyfriends file "on the computer" and he tells her that her boyfriend would be "mailed the welcome package" this August. He also tells her that her boyfriend has been all cleared with an "yellow flag" last year and just waiting for a number. Apparently they have a colored flag system and one eventually needs at least an yellow flag to get cleared for a green card. About 90% of employment based green card applicants normally get yellow flags, and less than 5 percent get white flag which is the best flag you can get. These flags apparently are not assigned during the background check. The immigration officer assigned to the file is apparently the one that assigns these flags to people based on the overall information he has at his disposal including the information or lack of information from the application package, FBI background check information, etc. So, she asks if he can tell her why her boyfriend got an yellow flag and this guys tells her that he cant find anything obvious on the file that could cause this except for the fact that her boyfriend jumped the line for finger printing by getting it done on an earlier date than the actual appointment date. She finally asked if there is anything else and he tells her that he could tell her what car her boyfriend drives and what size jeans her boyfriend bought last summer. Apparently FBI background check tracks and reports even that kind of information.
That was the end of story and all the pertinent information this guy gave me. Apparently this thing happened in April. I think whole thing about welcome package (I never heard that term before, though now I know what it means now that I googled it) being mailed in August is complete BS. I thought it was an interesting story though with the flag system and the jeans and all that...even if it is a figment of someone's elaborate creativity. I do not mean to raise false hopes for anyone by posting this here and moderators please delete this post(rumor) if it is inappropriate for this thread. I just had to post this here even though I personally think the chances of this story being true or the august prediction becoming true are next to zero. I am laughing about it now and I will laugh about this when the august bulletin is released.

I will make 2 points here:
1. Our policy is not to remove posts unless they are abusive/offensive/spam/plagiarizing. So I won't do it. But if other mods want to I wouldn't strike anybody's decision down.
2. What is written below is not completely unbelievable. I think that other than Aug 2008 getting current everything else is quite possible while Aug 2008 is not impossible.

Q,
the request in fact was for the person who posted so he can voluntarily delete it and I didn't mean it literally, in the sense I wasn't demanding that the person do it but just making a point that the whole thing sounded rather juvenile.
I should have in fact be more careful in framing the sentence.

Re: the story - He lost me when he said "she works for DHS". DHS doesn't move dates. The DOS does.
That being said, I won't delete it either. Its entertaining to say the least :)

Oh come on viz. It's more credible than that. I will tell you my experience. In 2008 - wife and kids were returning from India. At airport the IO says to my wife - "Oh you almost have a GC" (something like that - don't remember verbatim). Apparently he had live access to everything about our GC application. She said we have applied. He says - it's just a matter of days before you get it (i.e. everything else is ready). Now that's pretty much what happened - except that he missed the part that for Indian dates were not current. But his words came true 3 years later when the date became current we literally received our cards in 15-20 days.
So ... that's why I thought what ww said makes "SOME" sense although I thought dating DHS folks is a bit wild.

Thanks Q,
I personally read and enjoy these rumors for the entertainment value and if its in the right place people know what they are reading.
Lot of these stories remind me of how naive people in india are sold everything from ayurveda to homeopathy etc. as they were somehow convinced without scientifically approaching these concepts. ( my personal opinion as a dcotor in this country for several years, I dont want people suddenly attacking me if they firmly believe in these stuff)
I am firm believer in free speech even if its offensive to some (as long as they are not breaking law by threatening or hate speech etc.) as sometimes an idea however weird it may look at that point of time might become a popular one, so all thoughts and ideas should be allowed on the table.

Ok one more rumor from the same guy. Out of frustration, yesterday he asked his girl friend to check with the DHS guy again. She did and the response was "Well there are still 29,000 unused employment based visas available, anything can happen."
Like someone pointed out here before, I don't know how a DHS guy can know this kind of information but I just wanted to post it here just in case this is true.

To me that's totally credible data point.
However dont get excited because 1 month = approx 156/12 = 13K. So 2 months = 26K.
This is mid july so the math for 2.5 months is 32.5K right? So 29K is in the ball park. To be honest it is less than what I would've expected and hence this is a negative news.

Since each of the first 3 quarters can use a maximum of 27% of EB visas available, then a minimum of 19% of 158k should be left for Q4 (July-September) or 30k.
Only looking at that Q4 number, midway through July should have about 25k left.
But that would only be the case if all available visas had been used in the first 3 quarters.
On the basis that spillover yet to be released to EB2-I may be 14-15k, then the expected number left should be 10-15k higher than expected, as other Categories would have to have underused by that amount in the first 3 quarters.
In addition Q4 has to have sufficient visas (more than normal) for EB3-WW. They certainly underused as the existing inventory ran out and new applications awaited adjudication.
On that basis, 29k left look a very low figure. I would expect it to be over 40k.

Wow I actually thought that 29k left meant good news.
In light of your replies, it doesn't make sense to me now. If it was indeed only 29k, then the eb2i move to jan 1 2008 would be too aggressive. I should stop believing this guy.
Thanks as always to you guys.

I've put this under All Kinds Of Rumours
I just noticed this (http://www.trackitt.com/member/kanika910) EB2-I approval on Trackitt with a PD of 07 May 2008.
Personally, I think either there is a mistake in the profile, or it is not actually an approval, since the PD isn't even Current in August.
Currently, it is in my "Don't Believe" bucket and likely to remain there.
Edit:- Further investigation reveals they ported from EB2 to EB1. Mystery solved.
